Abstract:
The present invention relates to hole cutting in general and, in particular to the cutting of holes (34) and the like in plasterboard, plywood, plaster walls and the like. The use of rotary drill tools such as hand-drills, mains or battery powered machine drills is ubiquitous in the building trade whether for maintenance or original build, by carpenter, electrician, gas-engineer or plumber. Equally most homes have a number of drill-drivers for Do-lt-Yourself (DIY) projects hobbies or otherwise. Typically, a DIY drill-driver for home will be provided with a set of drill bits which are cutting tools used to create cylindrical holes (34), almost always of circular cross-section. Drill bits come in many sizes and have many uses. A hole saw (14, 20), also known as a hole cutter, is a saw blade having an annular (ring) shape, whose annular kerf creates a hole in the work-piece without having to cut up the core material. It is used in a drill. Hole saws typically have a pilot drill bit (11) at their centre to keep the hole saw (14, 20) centralised, to prevent the saw teeth (18) from moving from the intended place of cutting or "from walking", as is commonly said. A problem exists, on the one hand that it is difficult and/or clumsy and/ or time consuming to change a hole saw (14, 20) bit. On the other hand especially in the case of the enlargement of holes (34), a pre- existing hole may prevent placement of a central twist-drill bit (11).
Abstract:
An adapter with arbor and engagement plane to stabilize a variety of hole enlargement devices such as hole saws and rotary cutters. A method for stabilization of a bore, the method consisting of securing a bore adaptor within a receiving aperture of a drill, where the adapter consists of (a) a shaft having a first and second end, where the first end has a non-cylindrical cross-section at a lateral engagement plane, which plane is capable of engaging with a drive shaft of the drill.
Abstract:
Described herein is a guide for a hole saw for making a new larger hole in a work piece with an existing hole, the guide comprising: a base sized to span the existing hole, the base comprising a central aperture, a plurality of discrete first contact surfaces for abutting an interior cylindrical wall of the existing hole, and a plurality of discrete second contact surfaces for abutting an exterior surface of the work piece surrounding the existing hole; the plurality of discrete second contact surfaces being substantially co-planar and being substantially perpendicular to the plurality of discrete first contact surfaces; a shaft having a first end sized to be received in an arbor of the hole saw and a second end to be slidably and rotatably received through the central aperture of the base; and the base biased to be located at or near the second end of the shaft.
Abstract:
A pilot pin assembly is slidably receivable within a tool bit of a drill press. The pilot pin assembly includes a first pin defining an interior cavity, and a second pin at least partially received within the interior cavity of the first pin. A spring is positioned within the interior cavity for biasing the second pin toward an extended position relative to the first pin.
Abstract:
The present invention pertains to housings, which are universally configured to accommodate electrical appliances and methods of installing such housings. In particular the universal housing comprises a cylindrical component comprises a cylindrical component configured to drill through and fix to a construction part of a building, where the cylindrical component creates a space within the construction part of a building, and the space is configured to accommodate an electrical appliance, and a housing configured to reversibly couple directly or indirectly within the cylindrical component and accommodate the electrical appliance. The invention also provides drilling means configured to introduce the cylindrical component into a construction part of a building, where the drilling means comprise a drilling adapter configured to reversibly couple to and lock within the cylindrical component and a drilling head configured to reversibly couple to and lock within the drilling adapter.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a quick change system for rotary tools (9), particularly hole saws, comprising an elongate shank (11) and a tool adapter (15) for coupling a rotary tool (9) to the shank (11). The quick change system according to the invention comprises a rotation blocking, a first axial blocking which can be operated and a second axial blocking which cannot be operated. The present invention also relates to a shank (11) and a tool adapter (15) for the purpose of forming a quick change system for rotary tools (9).

Abstract:
A circular cutter is provided for use in cutting a hole through a main pipe wall from within a branch pipe, the circular cutter including a shaft rotated about a rotational axis, a circular cutter having at an outer end cutting teeth and an inner end secured to the shaft, and at least one centering ring secured to the circular cutter external cylindrical surface and of external diameter greater than the circular cutter external cylindrical surface and less than the internal diameter of the branch pipe, the centering ring serving to centrally position the circular cutter as it is rotated within the branch pipe and also serving to provide a positive stop to axial advancement of the circular cutter after it has cut through the main pipe wall.
Abstract:
A hole-saw assembly including a hole-saw having at one end a plurality of cutting teeth and at the other end a base having two holes therethrough. two shafts. The assembly includes a mandrel coaxially aligned with said hole-saw and including a body having two bores therethrough, and an annulus located on top of the body which is coaxially aligned with said mandrel and hole saw. The annulus includes two shafts co-axial with the mandrel bores, and is rotatable around its longitudinal axis from a first to a second position. In the first position the annulus shafts are aligned with the base holes allowing the shafts to be freely insertable and removable and in the second position the shafts are misaligned to lock the shafts to the base. In one embodiment the mandrel bores are shaped to accommodate rotation of the shafts, and in a further embodiment, the shafts are configures to rotate within circular mandrel bores. Such an arrangement allows the hole-saw and the mandrel to be easily and quickly mountable and demountable.
