Abstract:
Abstract:
Apparatus (10) and method for using a portable tool (20) for assisting the making of holes in pipes (12) to prepare for interconnected branch or cross lines. The apparatus includes a guide member (24) and a plurality of bushings (52, 52a, 52b, Fig. 5) able to accommodate a plurality of hole saws (22, 22a, 22b, Fig. 5) of varying diameters. The apparatus includes a stop member (46) to prevent inadvertent sawing of the opposite internal pipe wall. The apparatus includes a drill bit (40a, Fig. 4) able to span the internal diameter of the pipe to create a pilot hole (50) to mark the centerline of the cross hole to be sawed.
Abstract:
A reciprocating saw has a tooth form that decreases the cutting time of the saw blade and extends the life of the saw blade. The tooth height is longer than conventional metal cutting reciprocating saws. Also, the tooth form has a larger gullet. The tooth rake angle remains substantially constant during the life of the saw blade.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a hole-saw assembly (10) including a hole saw (26) having at one end a plurality of cutting teeth and at the other end two shafts. The assembly includes a mandrel (16) coaxially aligned with said hole-saw and including a body having two bores there through coaxially aligned with said shafts. An annulus (20) located on top of the body is coaxially aligned with said mandrel and hole saw and includes two holes, the annulus rotatable around its longitudinal axis from a first to a second position. In the first position the annulus holes are aligned with the bores and shafts allowing the shafts to be freely insertable and removable and in the second position the holes are misaligned to lock the shafts to the annulus. The mandrel further includes a pair of driving pins (22) adapted to engage driving apertures (24) found in hole saws especially larger ones. Typically the driving pins may biased to enable the assembly to be used even with those hole saws that do not include driving apertures and that also enables easier assembly of the device. A compressible O-ring (42) may further facilitate the operation of the assembly. This device avoids the problem of thread stripping.
Abstract:
An arbor is provided for a hole cutter having an outer surface defining a threaded hole, and a pair of pin holes spaced radially relative to the threaded hole. The arbor has an arbor body defining a threaded end portion threadedly engageable with the threaded hole of the hole cutter, a stop surface formed adjacent to the threaded end portion and spaced radially outwardly therefrom; a drive shank located on another end portion of the arbor body; and a pair of first bearing surfaces located on opposite sides of the arbor body relative to each other and extending axially along a portion of the arbor body between the stop surface and drive shank. A pin ring has an aperture formed therethrough for slidably receiving the arbor body; a pair of drive pins; a second bearing surface that is abuttingly engageable with the hole cutter with the pins received within the corresponding pin holes of the hole cutter; and a pair of third bearing surfaces that are engageable with the first bearing surfaces of the arbor body for preventing relative rotation of the pin support member and arbor body, and are movable axially over the stop surface of the arbor body and engageable with the major diameter of the threaded end portion of the arbor body.

Such an arrangement allows the hole-saw and the mandrel to be easily and quickly mountable and demountable.
Abstract:
The hole saw assembly (30) provides a structure and method for efficiently and securely connecting a hole saw (32) to an arbor (34) and easily connecting a pilot bit (36) to the arbor (34). The arbor (34) has a shank (62) opposite a coupling end (66) and a receiving slot (76) proximate to the coupling end (66). The receiving slot (76) is adapted to receive a mounting tag (46) of the hole saw (32) to couple the hole saw (32) to the adapter body (64). The arbor (34) also includes a selector sleeve (70) slidably coupled to the body (64) for movement between a first position allowing the receiving slot (76) to receive the hole saw (32) and a neutral position wherein the selector sleeve (70) prevents removal of the hole saw mounting tab (46) from the receiving slot (76).
Abstract:
A drill bit (10) is provided with a cylindrical body portion (24) fabricated from a plastic material. The body portion is fastened in concentric, end to end relation to a cylindrical cutter (12) fabricated from a metallic material and having an array of cutting elements (16) disposed thereon. The body portion and cutter are preferably tubular, wherein the cutting elements are disposed in an annular array, to facilitate core or crown drilling operations.
