Abstract:
A yarn (or thread) guide system for and methods of quick yarn change and yarn repair for manufacture of erosion control blankets (ECB) and/or other similar composites is disclosed. The yarn guide system includes a set of yarn guide tubes through which the respective yarns (or threads) are passed using a swift burst of compressed air is applied to the top of the tube. Further, yarn guide system includes pneumatic cylinders and an actuator valve for lifting up the needle aperture plate to prevent and/or clear jams. Additionally, methods are provided of (1) initially threading yarn into the sewing portion of an ECB mat machine, (2) re-threading yarn (e.g., broken yarn) into the sewing portion of an ECB mat machine, and (3) clearing debris from and/or preventing debris from jamming the sewing portion of an ECB mat machine.
Abstract:
Abstract:
Abstract:
A device that includes an insertion member, a shank, and a body having a through-hole and a post. The device can be part of a cellular confinement system. A method of transferring load from an expanded cellular confinement structure to a flexible tendon includes inserting an insertion member of a device through an open slot in the structure, inserting a tendon through a through-hole in the body of the device, and wrapping the tendon around a post of the body. A kit includes a first unitary section of cells, at least one device, and at least one tendon for securing the device and the section to allow transfer of load from the web to the tendon.
Abstract:
Abstract:
A synthetic ground cover system for erosion control to be placed atop the ground, including a synthetic grass which comprises a composite of one or more geo- textiles tufted with synthetic yarns. The synthetic ground cover also includes a sand/soil infill ballast applied to the synthetic grass and a binding agent applied to the sand/soil infill to stabilize the sand/soil infill against high velocity water shear forces.
Abstract:
A system for covering various types of ground where water and wind erosion protection are needed comprises a composite of at least one geotextile tufted or knitted with synthetic yarns (forming a synthetic turf), an open grid mesh, and a geo-filter (filter fabric). The filter fabric is positioned in direct contact with the ground surface, the open grid mesh is positioned over the filter fabric, and the synthetic turf is positioned over the open grid mesh. The system provides a beneficial erosion protection that does not require maintenance and can be used to cover slopes without requiring vegetative support and/or a topsoil layer. Optionally, the synthetic turf is engineered to have polyethylene fibers with a length of 2 to 2.5 inches tufted into two fabrics consisting of needle punch non-woven polyester and woven polypropylene geotextiles. If desired, an optional sand layer of about 0.5 to about 1.0 inches can be placed atop the synthetic turf as desired as infill to ballast the material and protect the system against wind uplift.
Abstract:
A composite material made up of fluid permeable layer and a core having drainage voids between projections thereon. The core has a number of relatively large openings defined therein so that in use the fluid permeable layer may extend through the openings in response to a working load applied thereto.
