The antenna transducer (36) includes a primary antenna transducer portion (48) for transducing signals generated to effectuate a communication service in the cellular communication system (10). And, the antenna transducer (36) includes a second antenna transducer portion (54) for transducing GPS signals (28) transmitted to the mobile station (12). The primary and second antenna transducer portions (48, 54) are disposed upon a common substrate (42), and the second antenna transducer portion (54) exhibits circular polarization characteristics.
Abstract:
A compact planar inverted F antenna suited for remote wireless metering includes a circuit element (10), a ground plane (11) and a feed probe (49). The circuit element (10) has a planar portion with a reactance window (20), and a narrowed tab (14) that extends transverse to the planar portion and is connected to the ground plane (11). The reactance window (20) and narrowed tab (14) reduce the size of the circuit element (10). The feed probe (49) is connected between the circuit element (10) and the ground plane (11). The ground plane (11) has conductive portions that are wrapped around a substrate to reduce the physical size of the ground plane. The length of the tab and thereby the distance between the planar portion and the ground plane is selected so that the feed probe is a radiating element. The antenna is compact with good isotropic characteristics and sensitivity to two perpendicular polarizations.
Abstract:
In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a patch antenna assembly (10) having a generally planar patch antenna (12), defined by a first peripheral boundary (14), and a generally planar parasitic ground plate (16), disposed at a spaced parallel relation to the patch antenna (12). The assembly (10) further includes at least one conductive parasitic shielding element (18) for segregating electromagnetic fields between the patch antenna (12) and the ground plate (16). The shielding element (18) is disposed in electrical communication with the ground plate (16) and extends from the ground plate (16) and substantially about the first peripheral boundary (14) of the patch antenna (12).
Abstract:
A patch antenna with wider bandwidth, better axial ratio over the angle and controlled radiation patterns is provided, A central fixed patch antenna is surrounded with reactively or resistively loaded peripheral monopoles as surface- wave excited parasitic radiators. The surrounding monopoles may be printed on the same substrate as the patch, and may take a spiral (pin-wheel) shape.
