Abstract: An improved seal (10) for use in a universal joint (11) having an elastic seal ring (23) compressed between a pair of right circularly cylindrical sleeves (24, 25). The seal ring is bonded to the sleeves. The sleeves are adapted to have press-fitted relationship with association portions of the universal joint, such as the journal trunnion (12) and the bearing retainer (14). In one form, the elongated extent of the sleeves is parallel to the axis (15) of the journal trunnion (12) and in a modified form, the sleeves (124, 125) extend perpendicularly thereto. In each form, a portion of one of the sleeves is disposed adjacent the inner end of the needle bearings (22, 122) so as to limit axial movement thereof. The sleeves are bonded to the seal ring so as to preclude sliding movement therebetween while yet permitting limited axial play in the universal joint thereby to provide long troublefree life of the seal.

Abstract: In an earth working apparatus (10, 12), a separate router bit (32) and support (34) are removably secured along a generally vertically extending side member (22) of an earth-working blade (18). By forming them of separate elements, the router bit can be made of inexpensive plate metal while the support can be economically forged since it is in relatively protected position between the router bit and side member. The support is reversible and has a first lip (36) overlying the upper end (38) of the router bit and a second lip (40) underlying the lower end (30) of the side member whereby forces are transmitted directly from the router bit to the side member through the support instead of through the removable bolts (50).

Abstract: An adjusting mechanism (92) is provided between a valve spool (62) and a valve actuating lever (26) whereby with the lever (26) locked in a selected position, the mechanism (92) is manipulated to move an element (99) carried by the valve spool (62) into alignment with an indicator (110) that has been predetermined to be the selected setting of the valve. With the element (99) aligned with the indicator (110), the mechanism (92) is locked so that the valve spool (62) is in the selected setting when the lever (26) is in the selected position. Abstract: During operation of a welding torch (10), electrode wire (17) travels through a contact tip assembly (14) directly into a weld area. The assembly (14) is exposed to elevated temperatures which can cause damage from weld spatter and increased deterioration of the assembly (14). In the welding torch (10), a liquid is received by first apparatus (44) and gasifies owing primarily to the elevated welding temperatures at the first apparatus (44). Abstract: A turbine shroud assembly (40) includes an expansion control ring (44) to support segmented rotor shrouds (50). The expansion control ring is restrained by adjacent ported manifold rings (54, 56), yet is free to thermally expand radially outwardly without loss of axial alignment with the associated turbine wheel (12). The ported manifold rings are positioned on either side of an outwardly extending leg (52) of the expansion control ring to direct cooling fluid delivered thereto toward the expansion control ring. A spacer ring (62) surrounds the expansion control ring and restrains the expansion control ring relative to the manifold rings. The spacer ring maintains axial alignment of the expansion control ring with the turbine wheel (12). Cooling fluid is exhausted into the main hot gas stream, both upstream and downstream of the turbine wheel thus substantially preventing hot gases from affecting the expansion control ring.
