Abstract:
A method and circuit for monitoring the useful life of a filter for a filter-fan product. The method includes the steps of detecting use of a fan of the filter-fan product with a microprocessor, counting from a predetermined initial counter value a duration of usage of the fan with a counter of the microprocessor to determine a present counter value, sending a signal representing the present counter value from the microprocessor to a display and displaying the remaining useful life of the filter based on the signal received from the microprocessor. Use of the fan is preferably detected by detecting a position of a fan speed switch such that the microprocessor detects the speed of the fan and adjusts the rate of counting by the counter based on the detected speed of the fan. The circuit includes a microprocessor electrically connected to a fan of the filter-fan product for detecting use of the fan and a display electrically connected to the microprocessor for displaying the remaining useful life of the filter. The microprocessor includes a counter, having a predetermined initial counter value, which counts from the predetermined initial counter value a duration of usage of the fan to determine a present counter value. The microprocessor sends a signal representing the present counter value to the display which uses the signal to display the remaining useful life of the filter.
Abstract:
A method of charging fibrous webs with nonaqueous polar liquids. A web (20) that contains nonconductive fibers is wetted with a nonaqueous polar liquid (14). The web (20) is then substantially dried (22) to provide a fibrous electret web. The fibrous electret web can be used as a filter in a filtration face mask (40) that is adapted to cover the nose and mouth of the wearer. The present method has the advantage over known charging methods in that the nonaqueous liquid requires less energy for drying than is required for aqueous liquids. Additionally, many filter webs can be directly wetted with nonaqueous liquids, which cannot be easily wetted with aqueous liquids.
Abstract:
The present invention is an improved molded filter which performs multiple filtration functions within an enclosed environment, such as within a computer hard disk drive. In a first embodiment, the filter is capable of removing particulate contaminants from both incoming (external) air and recirculating air by performing both breather and recirculation functions when placed over a breather hole in a disk drive. In an alternative embodiment, the filter also incorporates an adsorbent material which allows it to remove both particulate and vapor phase contaminants from incoming (external) air and recirculating air within the disk drive.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to high dielectric non-woven fabrics and their synthetic process. Particularly, the present invention relates to a process for preparing high dielectric non-woven fabrics comprising the steps of (a) mix-spinning polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and polypropylene (PP) to prepare a fiber, (b) polarizing the fiber prepared in the step (a) to improve the dielectric constant of the fiber, and (c) manufacturing non-woven fabrics from the fiber having improved dielectric constant, prepared in the step (b), and non-woven fabrics prepared according to the mentioned process. The non-woven fabrics of the present invention have very improved static electricity retention properties compared to the dielectric non-woven fabrics of the prior art. Thus, when they are applied to an electrostatic filter or sweeper, they can be made into an electrostatic filter that has a longer life time and excellent filtration efficiency for micro-particles and ionic particles, or to a sweeper that has high static electricity retention property and longer life time.
Abstract:
In a method of producing a clean gas from hydrocarbons, hot air and steam are mixed in a reaction zone with carbonaceous residue, whereby carbon reacts with oxygen to form CO2 and CO under heat release. Hydrocarbon is added to release moisture and volatile and to have reacted volatile and carbon to CO and H2, the sulfur of the hydrocarbon being mainly converted into H2S. A sulfur sorbent is added and is converted into CaO, which CaO reacts with H2S and COS to solid CaS. At the exit of the reaction carbonaceous residue is separated from the fluid and returned to the reaction zone. The gas is fed into a gas cooler, in which it is cooled by cold solids. The solids consist on one hand of ash being cooled with the air prior to the air entering into the reaction zone and on the other hand of ash and carbonaceous residue filtered out of the reduced gas downstream the gas cooler. The latter solids are size-enlarged prior to their entering the gas cooler.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a device in connection with a filter, especially an active electret filter for air cleaning, said filter comprising an ionisation portion (10; 10'), said portion (10; 10') having a high voltage source at a certain potential, and a precipitator portion (18; 18'), said portion (18; 18') having a downstream side facing away from the ionisation portion (10; 10'). In known electret filters the fibre material eventually loses its charge, alternatively is it necessary to use a fibre material that is easily polarised when an electrical field is applied. The aim of the present invention is to define a filter of the previously mentioned type that is characterised in that as filter material a number of different pre-filter media are useful and that at the downstream side of the filter a layer (22; 22') of electrically conductive material is applied, said material having an absolute potential that is lower than the potential of the high voltage source (12).

Abstract:
A construction for supporting a flexible sheet (56) is disclosed, which construction includes a U-shaped channel (34) having opposed flanges (40, 42) that are adapted to receive a complementary spline member (50) for frictionally engaging a flexible sheet (56), such as window screen, between a surface of the spline member (50) and an adjacent inner surface of one flange of the U-shaped channel (34). The structure has several practical applications including the assembly of window screen frames, electrostatic air filters of the charged media type, frames for storm windows of plastic film, and the like. An improved construction for an electrostatic air filter of the charged media type, which air filter is assembled using the construction for supporting a flexible sheet (56), is also disclosed.
