摘要: An apparatus is provided for the detection of changes in concentrations or amounts of components of a fluid mixture by measuring changes in an electrical or a mechanical property of a sensing element when the sensing element is exposed to the fluid mixture. The preferred property of the sensing element to be measured is its electrical resistance which changes when the sensing element adsorbs at least one component of the fluid mixture.

摘要: A method of detecting a leak in a pipeline system, wherein a measurement is performed to determine the difference in the rate of change of pressure due to a leak between one pressure level and at least one other pressure level, after compensation has been made for thermally induced changes in the pressure in a pressurized pipeline system, including the steps of pressurizing the pipeline system to a first pressure level, and measuring the changes in pressure in the pipeline system that occur over a first measurement period; and pressurizing the pipeline system to at least a second pressure level, and measuring the changes in pressure in the pipeline system that occur over at least a second measurement period. A computation is then performed of the difference in the temperature compensated rate of change of pressure between one pressure level and at least one other pressure level from the measured pressure data at the pressure levels, including a correction for the thermally induced non-linear changes of pressure rate of change of pressure between the pressure levels is computed from the rate of change of pressure measured during the measurement periods (first derivative of the pressure data or rate of change of pressure) and higher order derivatives of the pressure data.

摘要: A vehicle brake leakage detector (10) installs between a vehicle brake pedal and a reference point such as a steering wheel, for testing vehicle hydraulic brake systems, and, specifically, for detecting brake fluid leaks. A brake contact (12) at one end of the detector contacts the vehicle brake pedal and a reference end (18) at the opposite end of the detector contacts any tangible reference location, such as a steering wheel. Springs (42) are associated with the detector for applying force for pressurizing the vehicle brake fluid when the detector is installed. An output source (28) indicates whether any brake fluid leaks are detected.

摘要: An improved system for the non-destructive testing of fluid-tight integrity in an installed fluid transfer line such as a drain pipe, vent and wastewater system of a building. A removable test baffle is held in place between ends (102, 103) of adjacent sections of an installed fluid transfer line (101) to isolate a portion of the line for fluid-tightness integrity testing. The test system comprises a baffle carriage (110), removable test baffle (130) and sleeve (150) adapted to engage the outer surfaces of the adjacent sections to seal the junction and the test installation from leaking by providing one or more gaskets (153) between the section ends (102, 103) and the baffle carriage (110), where the baffle carriage may be an integral part of the sleeve. Preferred baffles of this invention are flexible domes (130) and comprise dual gasket sealing means, such baffles being completely removable from the fluid transfer line at either side of test seal after testing, without risk of blocking or obstructing the fluid line, thereby achieving a non-destructive type of fluid-tightness integrity test.

摘要: The invention relates to a method and a device for the permanent and automatic monitoring of temperature distributions and/or temperature anomalies on the basis of distributed fibre-optic temperature sensing, as well to the use of such a method. According to the invention, local temperature extremes, i.e. minimum or maximum values, are detected by evaluation without numeric derivations. The device for monitoring ascending or supply pipes surrounded by an annular space allows for an especially economical monitoring of the safety of installations under pressure, especially in the field of compressed gas storage. Moreover, the position of an underground watershed or the direction and flow rate of the flows in flooded mine workings can be determined on the basis of fibre-optic temperature measurements. The defined arrangement of preferably vertical sensor cables inserted into boreholes also makes it possible to examine the density of base soils and lateral walls in building excavations. Finally, the virtually horizontal, meander-like arrangement of fibre-optic cables situated in several levels makes it possible to evaluate and control the efficacy and homogeneity of leaching processes in leaching dumps and fills.

摘要: Method and apparatus for determining the presence and identify of predetermined gases in the atmosphere such as would be found on a natural gas, natural gas liquid or oil pipeline if such pipeline was subject to leakage. An infrared transmitter and an infrared receiver are each mounted on a movable platform such as fixed or rotary wing aircraft or on a vehicle. As the moving platform follows its predetermined assigned route, the presence of gases is determined by the infrared transmitter and receiver and at least one data acquisition module. The geographic position of the movable platform is determined so that the geographic location of the predetermined gases in the atmosphere is known.

摘要: A spoolable composite member having a sensor and an energy conductor embedded in the composite member. The spoolable composite member is capable of being spooled onto a reel for storage and for use in oil field applications. The spoolable tube exhibits unique anisotropic characteristics that provide improved burst and collapse pressures, increased tensile strength, compression strength, and load carrying capacity, while still remaining sufficiently bendable to be spooled onto a reel in an open bore configuration. The spoolable composite tube can include an inner protective layer, an inner pressure barrier layer, an interface layer, fiber composite layers, an outer pressure barrier layer, and an outer protective layer.
