    Abstract: The present invention relates to a process of producing an polymeric dispersion by free radical emulsion polymerization of a monomer composition comprising ethylenically unsaturated mono-mers in the presence of a block copolymer, whereas the block copolymer has a first block com-prising at least 80 wt.-% units of alkyl acrylate and a second block comprising units of an eth-ylenically unsaturated monomer with sulfonic acid groups whereas either the first or the second block is connected with a nitroxyl radical, the polymeric dispersion obtainable by the inventive process and the block copolymer used in the process and its use as emulsifying agent for free radical emulsion polymerization.
