Abstract: An ophthalmic device includes an enclosure (335), two immiscible fluids (321, 327), an electrode (337), a dielectric (329), and an anion getter material (309). The enclosure is configured to mount on or in an eye of a user. The two immiscible fluids, including a first fluid and a second fluid, are disposed within the enclosure. The electrode is separated from the two immiscible fluids by the dielectric. The electrode is capable of forming a barrier layer during an anodization process when a voltage is applied across the electrode and the first fluid. The anion getter material is disposed within the ophthalmic device and is capable of gettering anion contaminants that inhibit the anodization process from forming the barrier layer.

Abstract: An apparatus for measuring a performance metric of a heart includes a housing, a tactile sensor, a finger clamp, a linear actuator, and a controller. The tactile sensor measures blood pressure pulsatility in a digital artery of a finger via applanation tonometry and outputs pulsatility signals indicative of the blood pressure pulsatility. The finger clamp extends from the housing to clamp the finger against the tactile sensor with the digital artery aligned over the tactile sensor. The linear actuator drives the finger clamp with a clamping force directed along a linear path. The controller is coupled to the tactile sensor and the linear actuator to control the clamping force and to generate pulsatility data, based upon the pulsatility signals, from which the performance metric of the heart may be determined.

Abstract: A retinal imaging system includes an image sensor for acquiring a retinal image and a dynamic illuminator for illuminating a retina to acquire the retinal image. The dynamic illuminator includes a center baffle along with first and second illumination arrays. The center baffle extends from and surrounds an aperture through which an image path for the retinal image passes before reaching the image sensor. The first illumination array extends out from first opposing sides of the aperture along a first linear axis. The second illumination array extends out from second opposing sides of the aperture along a second linear axis that is substantially orthogonal to the first linear axis.

Abstract: A wearable blood pressure meter includes a cuff, a tactile sensor, a cuff actuator, and a controller. The cuff is sized and shaped to wear around a body part having an artery. The tactile sensor is disposed on or adjacent to an inward facing surface of the cuff. The tactile sensor is positioned along the inward facing surface to align with the artery and to measure pressure applied to the tactile sensor by the artery when the cuff is worn around the body part. The cuff actuator is mechanically coupled to the cuff to cinch the cuff around the body part. The controller is coupled to the tactile sensor to record pressure signals from which a blood pressure measurement may be determined.

Abstract: A technique for controlling vertical propulsion units of an aerial vehicle includes determining whether an initial thrust command output vector results in a thrust command clipping of one of the vertical propulsion units. The vertical propulsion units are physically organized into propulsion rings including an inner ring and an outer ring. Torque associated with the initial thrust command output vector is transferred from each the vertical propulsion units in the outer ring to the vertical propulsion units in the inner ring when the thrust command clipping of one of the vertical propulsion units in the outer ring occurs. A revised thrust command output vector is determined after transferring the torque. The vertical propulsion units are driven according to the revised thrust command output vector.
