Abstract:
A CVT pulley includes a shaft having disposed thereon, a first and second sheave, and a spider. A spring biases the sheaves away from one another. The axially moveable second sheave is disposed axially between the axially fixed spider and the first sheave. A plurality of centrifugal weights, connected to either the spider or the second sheave, have a portion that moves radially outward with rotation of the shaft. The axial distance between the spider and the second sheave depends at least in part on the radial position of the portion which depends on the rotational speed. At least one cylinder is adapted to receive fluid. At least one piston, rotatable with the shaft, is adapted to move in the at least one cylinder in response to fluid being received therein, thereby selectively exerting force on one of the sheaves towards the other. CVTs and vehicles are also disclosed.

Continuously variable transmission with a drive belt (3) and with two pulleys (1, 2) that are each provided with two pulley discs (4, 5) with a running surface (8) for arriving in friction contact with a side face (35) of the drive belt (3), wherein both the running surfaces (8) of the pulleys (1, 2) and the side face (35) of the drive belt (3) are made of steel and wherein during operation of the transmission said friction contact is cooled by means of lubrication oil. According to the invention, at least one of the running surfaces (8) is provided with a multitude of (micron-scale) dimples (11, 13) and/or of grooves (12, 14, 15) arranged in a specific pattern for taking up lubrication oil.

Hydraulically activated adjustable pulley (50) for a torque transmission device in a vehicular drive line. The pulley (50) is provided with two conical discs (51, 52) on a shaft (53) and with hydraulically activated displacement means (54, 55, 56) for displacing one such disc (52) along such shaft (53) towards the respective other one disc (51). The pulley shaft (53) is provided with an axially oriented channel (58) and with a radially oriented channel (59) branching-off from the axial channel (58) and connecting to the displacement means (54, 55, 56) for allowing hydraulic fluid to flow to and from the displacement means (54, 55, 56). The axial channel (58) either is open towards both axial ends (64, 65) thereof, or is closed-off in the axial direction, with the shaft (53) being provided with a further radially oriented channel (61), likewise branching-off from the axial channel (58).

A continuous variable clutch is provided. The continuous variable clutch includes a first sheave member and a second sheave member. The first sheave member includes a first central hub and a first conical-faced surface extending radially from the first central hub. The second sheave member includes a second central hub and a second conical-faced surface that extends radially from the second central hub. The second central hub of the second sheave member is received in a cavity of the first central hub such that the first conical-faced surface of the first sheave member facing the second conical-faced surface of the second sheave portion. The second central hub moving axially within the first central hub based on an amount of torque on the continuous variable clutch. The first sheave member and the second sheave member further forming a central passage to receive an input shaft of a transmission.

The invention relates to an adjustable pulley (7), in particular for a continuously variable transmission, comprising two sheaves (8, 9) having a central opening into which an axle (6) of the pulley (7) is inserted, a first or fixed sheave (9) of which is fixedly connected to the axle (6) and a second or displaceable sheave (8) is displaceable along the axle (6) in the axial direction by means of the operating means (26, 27, 58) of the pulley (7). The central opening of the fixed sheave (9) is, at least viewed in an axial cross section thereof, non-circular, the axle (6) is provided, at the location of the fixed sheave (9), with an axial cross section which is substantially identical in shape to the central opening thereof, and the fixed sheave (9) is provided on the axle (6) with a force fit.

The invention relates to a continuously variable transmission for motor vehicles provided with a driving pulley (1) and with a driven pulley (2) around which is arranged a drive belt (3) which, at least when the transmission is operating, is clamped between two substantially conical pulley sheaves (4, 5) of the two pulleys (1, 2). The cone surface (10) of the pulley sheaves (4, 5) of the driving pulley (1) in a cross-section including the central pulley axis (9) is provided with a convex curvature having a radius of curvature (R10) that decreases in radially outward direction and the cone surface (10) of the pulley sheaves (4, 5) of the driven pulley (2) in a cross- section including the central pulley axis (9) is provided with a convex curvature having a radius of curvature (R10) that increases in radially outward direction.
