Abstract:
A cellular mobile network (200) allows a user equipment (100) to connect to the network, the user equipment having a subscription for using the network to send data intermittently and to disconnect (70) temporarily from the network automatically between its data transmissions (50). Parameters relating to the automated temporary disconnections are communicated, and data is sent from the user equipment while the user equipment is connected. The automated temporary disconnections and reconnections are detected by the network. By allowing user equipments which automatically disconnect temporarily between their data transmissions, the network need no longer provision for all such user equipments to be connected to the network simultaneously. Thus more such user equipments can be accepted as subscribers. By communicating with the user equipment about the temporary automated disconnections from the network, the network can have some control of, or at least be made aware of, the temporary automated disconnections.
Abstract:
There is provided a method of initiating a network re - attachment procedure by a mobile device, the mobile device being attached to a network other than the home network of the mobile device, and wherein location information for the mobile device in said other network is stored in a visitor location register, VLR, in said other network, the method comprising transmitting a first signal between the home network and the mobile device, if the home network and/or the mobile device is aware that the mobile device is in a border cell of the visited network where there may or should be coverage from the home network. This first signal indicates that the network re - attachment procedure can be initiated, since it has been determined that the mobile device is in said border cell, the mobile device, when sending or receiving said first signal starts a timer. Subsequently, the home network transmits a second signal to the VLR of the visited network, which causes the location information relating to the mobile device to be deleted from the VLR. On expiry of a time period sufficient to allow the location imformation to be deleted from the VLR, the mobile device sends a service request to an MSC of the visited network and on rejection of the request to an MSC of the visited network and on rejection of the request (due to the fact that the mobile device is no longer known in the VLR), the mobile device initiates a network re - attachment (and hopefully registers with the home network).
Abstract:
Methods and apparatuses are provided that facilitate detaching one of a plurality of network connections to ensure state information is retained at one or more network nodes. For a device initiated detach, the device can transmit a handover message related to performing a handover of one network connection to another active network connection, as opposed to explicitly detaching the network connection. This can cause at least some state information, such as a gateway identifier, to be retained in one or more network nodes. For a network initiated detach, a gateway can provision state information to a state information server following receiving a routing tunnel termination message to ensure state information deleted as a part of the detach is re-provisioned to the state information server.
Abstract:
There present invention relates to a method for managing the automatic provision of a subscriber network identifier from a central network server to a subscribed communication device, the method comprising receiving notification at the central server relating to a change in the current location for the subscribed device, and determining from the notification whether a new subscriber network identifier is to be provisioned from the central server. The method further comprises selecting a subscriber network identifier on the basis of the current location, if the determining step has determined that a new subscriber network identifier is to be provisioned, and outputting the selected subscriber network identifier for transmission to the subscribed device. The present invention also relates to managing the automatic connection of a subscribed communication device to a network, where a preferred network and preferred subscriber network identifier may be used.
Abstract:
There are provided measures for binding revocation in network-based mobility. Such measures for binding revocation may for example comprise one or more of exchanging a mobile node's user traffic being indexed with a tunnel key via a transport tunnel between an originating tunnel endpoint and a terminating tunnel endpoint, searching a binding cache for a transport tunnel with said tunnel key for a binding between the mobile node's home and mobility addresses, exchanging a request for revoking the respective binding and revoking the respective binding at the originating tunnel endpoint, said request indicating said tunnel key, when the searching fails to find said tunnel key.
Abstract:
A method to perform deregistration with context retention is presented. In one embodiment, the method includes storing a context associated with a mobile station in response to a deregistration request from the mobile station. The method includes determining whether or not to accept the deregistration request with context retention and sending a deregistration command message to the mobile station if the deregistration request with context retention is allowed.
Abstract:
Commonly, when a mobile device tethers to a computer, one Internet Protocol address is provided. When an embedded application runs continuously, such as with a Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem application, tethered applications can be prohibited from operating. If the continuous application is not active, then the continuous application can be disconnected and thus the tethered application can function.
