Abstract: A control handle for a steerable catheter allows for precise manipulation of the distal catheter tip in a target organ or vessel using only one hand. The control handle can have a single articulating knob capable of both linear translation along and rotation about the axis of the handle. These functions of the articulating knob actuate both the expansion and retraction of an expandable member, as well as bi-directional deflection of the distal catheter tip. The articulating knob functions with consistency regardless of the orientation of the handle, with ergonomic movements allowing the user to comfortably keep their attention on the procedure's monitoring equipment. These improvements can lead to safe and more rapid procedure times for procedures such as diagnostics and cardiac ablation.

Abstract: A scissor-style vessel sealing having a knife engagement mechanism that will automatically drive a knife between the jaws when the handles are moved into the closed position. The vessel sealer has a first shaft with a first jaw and a second shaft having a second jaw pivotally coupled to the first shaft so that the jaws are moveable between open and closed positions. A knife actuating assembly is coupled to the first shaft to move between a first position, where the knife is in a retracted position, to a second position, where the knife is in an extended position, in response to contact by the second shaft when the scissor-style vessel sealer is closed. A knife lockout may be used to disengage the knife engagement mechanism from the knife to prevent movement of the knife when the scissor-style vessel sealer is closed.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is an RF ablation system including a plurality of electrodes, a ground pad, and a signal generator. The electrodes are positioned at respective tissue sites within a patient's body, and the ground pad is positioned on the patient's body. The signal generator is coupled to the ground pad and the electrodes via corresponding channels including a selected channel and unselected channels. The signal generator commutates switching circuits for the corresponding channels to close the selected channel and to open the unselected channels, and measures a first impedance over the selected channel. The signal generator commutates the switching circuits to close the selected channel and the unselected channels, and then measures a second impedance. The signal generator computes a difference between the first and second impedances, and determines the ground pad has at least a poor electrical connection to the patient's body when the difference exceeds a threshold.

Abstract: An elongated medical tubular assembly is configured to improve, at least in part, transmission of a signal from the signal-transmitting device, received, at least in part, within the elongated medical tubular assembly, toward the signal-transceiving device of the medical-imaging system. The elongated medical tubular assembly defines a lumen extending from a distal tip toward a proximal end of the elongated medical tubular assembly; and the lumen is configured to receive, at least in part, the signal-transmitting device in such a way that the lumen, in use, receives, at least in part, the signal-transmitting device at the signal-liberating feature.
