Abstract:
Abstract:
A flame-retardant composition comprising a first component selected from a phosphorous -containing acid or a salt of a phosphorous -containing acid and a second component selected from an isocyanic acid, an isocyanic acid precursor, a cyanate salt, a thiocyanate salt or isothiocyanate precursor, dicyandi amide, cyanamide or carbodiimide precursor.
Abstract:
The invention relates to "closed loop" processes, systems and compositions for providing flame retardant properties to substrates containing at least about 5 weight percent of non-thermoplastic material, such as non-thermoplastic fibers, fibrous compositions or fabrics, and to treated substrates. The processes and systems are environmentally friendly, and advantageously conserve chemical compounds and water by recycling flame retardant composition. The processes generally comprise: (a) applying a flame retardant composition containing one or more flame retardant substances, an aqueous liquid and one or more adhesion agents to substrates; (b) removing excess flame retardant composition from the substrates; (c) permitting the substrates to dry to a low moisture content; and (d) recycling excess flame retardant composition; wherein the flame retardant composition does not contain an amount of a dye or other agent that could contaminate the flame retardant composition.
Abstract:
Improvements in the wash durability and discoloration levels for fabrics having topically applied silver-ion treatments (such as ion-exchange compounds, like zirconium phosphates, glasses and/or zeolites) are provided. Such solid compounds are generally susceptible to discoloration and, due to the solid nature thereof, are typically easy to remove from topical surface applications. The inventive treatment requires the presence of a specific polyurethane binder, either as a silver-ion overcoat or as a component of a dye bath mixture admixed with the silver-ion antimicrobial compound. In addition, specific metal halide additives (preferably substantially free from sodium ions) are utilized to combat the discolorations typical of such silver-ion formulations. As a result, wash durability, discoloration levels, or both, can be improved to the extent that after a substantial number of standard launderings and dryings, the inventive treatment does not wear away in any appreciable amount and the color of the treatment remains substantially the same as when first applied. The particular treatment method as well as the treated fabrics are also encompassed within this invention.
Abstract:
One aspect of the present invention relates to a clay-containing synthetic textile material lubricant composition comprising a synthetic textile material lubricant, clay, and a dispersant in an amount sufficient to stably suspend the clay in the composition. Another aspect of the present invention is a method of lubricating synthetic fibers or filaments used in forming synthetic filaments from the fibers or yarn from a monofilament or multiple filaments or lubricating synthetic filaments or synthetic yarn during subsequent processing or handling, where the method comprises using the composition of the present invention as the lubricant.
Abstract:
A method for primary fibrillation of lyocell or lyocell blends comprising the step of immersing lyocell fibres in an aqueous solution at a pH in the range of 2-10 and subjecting the fibres to mechanical stress.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a fabric which includes a microbial adsorbent and which is capable of providing a microbial barrier while still being able to allow passage of water vapor. The fabric is formed from a plurality of fibers which define at least one microporous passageway which allows communication, through the fabric, between its respective first and second surfaces. In particular, a portion of the microporous passageway is defined by the microbial adsorbent so that microbes attempting to pass through the fabric via such a passageway must pass in close proximity to the microbial adsorbent. This arrangement allows the microbial adsorbent to interdict the microbe by adsorbing it. Passage of the microbe through the fabric is therby prohibited. Laminates of the fabric with other materials are also disclosed.
Abstract:
Fire and smoke retarding water based composition and a method for one-step impregnation of water absorbable and normally combustible materials, such as wood or timber, paper or textiles, said composition comprising ammoniumphosphates, water soluble metal salts and optionally other additives, such as fungicides. The composition comprises in combination: 0.5-40 weight % monoammoniumphosphate and/or diammoniumphosphate, 5-30 weight % water soluble and dissociatable ammonium compound, 10-60 % water soluble metal salt with ability to form water insoluble salts with phosphate ions and/or ammoniumphosphate ions, 0-30 weight % phosphoric acid (85 %), 1-20 weight % acetic acid, and optionally maximum 5 weight % additives in a total concentration of from 1 to 55 weight % with respect to the total weight of the water solution.
