Abstract:
A self-contained system for protecting building penetrations is disclosed. The system can include a housing containing a take-up roll and a screen made from a flexible, strong fabric-like material suitable for resisting high winds, driving rain, and wind-driven missiles. The system can further comprise a deflector to maintain the angle of deployment of the screen. The system can further include a weight bar attached to the end of the screen to assist in deploying the screen. The system can further comprise a dual pulley system to assist in deploying the screen and to hold the screen in the deployed position. The system can be mounted on pivoting frames to enable the system to be positioned at a variety of angles with respect to the building. Multiple pivoting frames can be coupled to form an awning-type protection system. The multiple pivoting frames can be controlled as a group or independently.
Abstract:
Abstract:
The basic concept of the project starts from the design of a module made from automatically telescoping elements that set in motion, as called for by the situation, panes of glass and/or screen panels meant to close off the areas in question, protecting them from variable conditions of inclement weather and flying insects. The objective is for the uprights on the sides of each module not to be fixed but to feature a hideaway design. In other words, they would consist of two- stage telescoping columns (in one setting, fully closed with panes of glass; in the other setting, semi-closed with glass and screening). In this way, when the elements are completely lowered, there are no structures encumbering the aperture. The entire mechanism is activated with a remote control and/or atmospheric sensors. The dimensions in mm of the basic model are: 110 OH x 1200L x 130D.

Abstract:
Light management film constructions contain a first optical film having a first major surface and a second major surface opposite the first major surface. The first major surface is a microstructured surface with asymmetrical structures. The asymmetrical structures form an ordered arrangement of a plurality of multi-sided refractive prisms, with the multi-sided refractive prisms having a cross section of 3 or greater sides. A second optical film contacts and is bonded to substantially all of the structures of the first major structured surface of the first optical film. The light management constructions can be incorporated into optical articles such as windows.
Abstract:
The invention relates to liquid barrier. A liquid barrier unit (10) comprises a hollow, elongate, deformable structure provided with an inlet valve (26) for the ingress of ballast, the liquid barrier unit being such that, when ballasted, the passage of liquid from one side of the liquid barrier unit to the other side is restricted. Means (16, 18) for detachable connection to one or more other liquid barrier units may also be provided. A plurality of liquid barrier units may be connected together to form a barrier system (30).
Abstract:
An emergency flood control apparatus is described that includes a row of a plurality of vertically separated cells horizontally arranged formed between at least two continuous sheets of impermeable flexible material, a continuous horizontal tube formed between the sheets and disposed at an end of the cells, and a plurality of necks disposed perpendicularly between the tube and the cells, the necks connecting each of the cells to the horizontal tube in a manner such that the cells may be filled with fluid from the tube at substantially the same time.
Abstract:
A storm curtain assembly (10) includes a header (11) and side rails (13) extending downwardly from each end of the header (11). A roll (15) is positioned in the header (11) and carries a fabric curtain (14) which has one end attached to the roll (15). A bar (16) is attached to the other end of the fabric curtain (14). A track (20) is formed on each side rail (13), and the edges of the fabric curtain (14) are normally received in the tracks (20). One of the walls (18) which forms the track (20) terminates at an upper edge (21) which is spaced from the header (11) so that if an edge of the fabric curtain (14) is displaced from the track (20), the displaced edge will be allowed to be received in the track (20) as the fabric curtain (14) is being received on the roll (15).
Abstract:
A safety gate adapter especially adapted for facilitating the mounting of a safety gate includes a body member with a recessed mounting passage in which hook-and-eye straps are passed through the slots and attached to the newel of the banister in a secure fashion. A single sided sticky tape may also applied between the newel and the attachment in areas where the newel and attachment are parallel and flat. The purpose of the tape is to add friction and reduce side-to-side movement of the safety gate adapter. The elongated body member is selectively mountable around the newel of a banister of a stairway to semi-permanently secure the safety gate adapter at the head of a stairway. The safety gate adapter provides a safe, secure, and ornamentally attractive device for facilitating the mounting of a conventional safety gate.
Abstract:
Abstract:
A flood protection barrier (50) is disclosed that can be deployed in the event of an immanent flood risk. The barrier (50) comprises a shield (52) having a sealing element and securing means (54) for securing the shield in place to at least partially close an aperture in a wall of a building. The sealing element forms a fluid-resistant seal between barrier and the periphery of the aperture thereby resisting passage of water through the aperture. The barrier (50) can be secured by securing means (54) that require no modification to the building. The securing means may include clip assemblies or, in alternative embodiments, wedges or other suitable components.
