Abstract: A method of configuring a string of pulses for an encoded frequent pulsing (EFP) acquisition, comprising: (a) generating a string containing N pulses, each pulse occurring at a respective time tn, the string of length T, wherein in use the string of pulses is repeated to create a stream of pulses; (b) calculating the respective span intervals Δtn(k) between each pulse and every other pulse in the string, wherein k is the number of pulses in the span interval Δtn(k) (k being between 1 and N); (c) determining the degree of overlap D of the calculated span intervals Δtn by calculating the relative difference δΔt therebetween; (d) calculating the degree of uniformity S of the string of pulses; (e) calculating an objective function F = S - D for the string of pulses; (f) reconfiguring the string to alter the time tn of at least one pulse in the string; (g) calculating the objective function F' for the reconfigured string and, if F' is higher than F, adopting the reconfigured string.

Abstract: The present invention provides a retrievable downhole heater that can readily be retrieved from a downhole location once it has been used. The heater comprises an elongate tubular body (3) with a heat source (11) housed therein. The tubular body is formed from a material that does not melt during the downhole operation of the heater. The heater also is provided with at least one reduced friction region (13) that has a lower co-efficient of friction than the material from which the tubular body is formed. The reduced friction regions of the heater are configured to retain the lower co-efficient of friction following the downhole operation of the heater.

Abstract: A multi-trip method of repairing a leaking annular seal located within an annulus that encircles an oil/gas wellbore tubular body, examples of such seals including annular packers or cement seals. The method comprises providing deflector within a wellbore tubular body adjacent to one or more openings in the wall of the tubular body. Alloy beads are then deployed downhole via the tubular body so that the alloy beads are deflected via said openings into the annulus where they accumulate on top of the annular seal. A heating tool is then operated to heat the alloy within the annulus to form an alloy plug above the annular seal. The present invention also provides various pieces of downhole equipment for use in the repair method of the invention.
