Abstract: A severing apparatus is used for severing a conduit. The apparatus includes a main body section having an upper portion, a lower portion, and an intermediate portion. A combustible charge is located in the intermediate portion, and an ignition mechanism is coupled to the upper portion for igniting the combustible charge. A nozzle head is located in the lower portion and includes an internal cavity and a nozzle portion having apertures at spaced apart positions for providing passages from the internal cavity to outside of the nozzle head. The ignition mechanism is configured to ignite the combustible charge to create a flame and combustion products and pressure in the internal cavity for moving the nozzle head relative to the lower portion so that the nozzle portion protrudes out of the lower portion for passage of the flame and hot combustion products out of the apertures to sever the conduit.

Abstract: A method of sealing a partly or entirely annulus- cemented (102) casing portion (C10) of a first casing (C1) in a second casing (C2) in a petroleum well, comprising the steps of: - running a drill pipe string (0) -conveyed perforating gun (1) with a cement shattering device (2) into said well; - positioning said perforating gun (1) at said cemented casing portion (C10) and activating first, shallow-perforating charges (11) to make first, shallow perforations (12) through said casing portion (C10) into thus making a perforated, cement-filled annulus portion (C10A) and leaving said second casing (C2) intact; - activating said cement shattering device (2, 20) to disintegrate all or part of said cement (102) within said first perforated annulus portion (C10A); - running a washing tool (3) along said perforated casing portion (C10), washing out said shattered cement (102) from said perforated annulus portion (C10A). The washed-out casing portion (C10) may then be cut using a cutter tool (5) and pulled out of hole, or cemented using a cementing tool, or a combination thereof.

Abstract: A laser cutting tool includes: an optical assembly (38) that includes a laser generator that emits an laser beam (46); a reflector (42) disposed longitudinally downstream of the laser generator; the reflector reflecting the laser beam (46) emitted from the optical assembly; a focus lens (52) disposed laterally beside the reflector (42); and a timer (62) for controlling the tool to operate for at least one predetermined amount of time. The focus lens (52) focuses the laser beam after it passes through the reflector (42).

Abstract: A downhole welding tool includes a tool body and a welding device coupled to the tool body. The welding device includes a carrier arm reversibly pivotable between a collapsed configuration of the welding device in which the carrier arm is oriented parallel to the tool body and an extended configuration of the welding device in which the carrier arm projects outward from the tool body at an acute angle relative to the tool body, as well as a consumable welding tip secured to the carrier arm. The downhole welding tool also includes a rotatable actuator coupled to the tool body adjacent the welding device and configured to adjust the carrier arm between the collapsed configuration and the extended configuration.

SHAPED CHARGE SLITTING DEVICES FOR CONTROL LINE DISRUPTION IN A HYDROCARBON WELL AND RELATED METHODS FOR SEALING THE HYDROCARBON WELL

Abstract: Shaped charge slitting devices (80) for control line (60) disruption in a hydrocarbon well (20) and related methods for sealing the hydrocarbon well (20). The shaped charge slitting devices (80) include a plurality of shaped charges (220). Each shaped charge (220) is configured to, upon actuation, transform a corresponding liner (240) into a high-speed sheet portion (250), which is configured to form a circumferential slit within production tubing (50), and a low-speed slug portion (260), which is configured to at least partially seal the circumferential slit. The methods include positioning a shaped charge slitting device (80) within a selected region of a tubing conduit, actuating the shaped charge slitting device (80) to form a plurality of circumferential slits within the production tubing (50) and also to sever a control line (60), pumping a sealing material into an annular space via a sealing material injection opening (330) that extends between the tubing conduit and the annular space, and curing the sealing material to form a fluid seal.

DUEL END FIRING EXPLOSIVE COLUMN TOOLS AND METHODS FOR SELECTIVELY EXPANDING A WALL OF A TUBULAR

Abstract: A method of selectively expanding a wall of a tubular includes assembling an expansion tool comprising a plurality of bi-directional boosters, arranging a predetermined number of explosive pellets on the guide tube to be in a serially-arranged column between the bi-directional boosters, positioning a duel end firing explosive column tool within the tubular, and detonating the bi-directional boosters to simultaneously ignite opposing ends of the serially-arranged column to form two shock waves. The shock waves collide to create an amplified shock wave that travels radially outward to impact the tubular and expand a portion of the tubular wall radially outward, without perforating or cutting through the portion of the wall, to form a protrusion of the tubular at the portion of the wall. The protrusion extends into an annulus between an outer surface of the wall of the tubular and an inner surface of a wall of another tubular.
