Provided are compositions, systems, and methods of using a synthetic latex composition for treating a subterranean formation. An example method comprises providing a synthetic latex composition comprising: a synthetic latex and a latex stabilizer; and exposing the synthetic latex composition to air for an exposure period of at least one day; wherein the synthetic latex composition loses less than 5% of its initial water concentration at the end of a one-day exposure period. The synthetic latex composition may be further included in a treatment fluid. The treatment fluid may be introduced into a wellbore penetrating a subterranean formation.

The disclosed embodiments include downhole capacitive coupling systems, and methods and apparatuses to provide an electrical connection between two downhole strings. In one embodiment, the system includes a first electrode deployed along an internal surface of a first string deployed in a wellbore, the internal surface being defined by an annulus. The system also includes a second electrode deployed along an external surface of a second string, the second string being deployed within the annulus, and the external surface of the second string and the internal surface of the first string being separated from each other by the annulus. The first electrode and the second electrode are operable to form a first capacitive coupling between said first electrode and said second electrode to transfer electrical current from the second electrode to the first electrode.
Abstract:
Provided are methods and systems for reducing fluid communication between wells. An example method comprises providing a first treatment fluid comprising synthetic clay and an aqueous carrier fluid; pumping the first treatment fluid into a first fracture network in fluid communication with a first well; placing the synthetic clay in the first fracture network; pumping a second treatment fluid into the first fracture network after placing the synthetic clay in the first fracture network; wherein the second treatment fluid is not produced in a second well in fluid communication with a second fracture network, and wherein the second fracture network is in fluid communication with the first fracture network.
Abstract:
The disclosed embodiments include a method to protect a downhole generator from overvoltage. In one embodiment, the method includes determining a speed of an alternator. The method also includes activating overvoltage protection mode if the speed of the alternator is greater than a threshold speed, where activating the overvoltage protection mode includes converting an alternating current measured at the alternator into a first component and a second component of a direct current. Activating the overvoltage protection mode also includes determining a first current threshold based on at least one component of the downhole generator. Activating the overvoltage protection mode also includes shutting down the downhole generator if the first component of the direct current is greater than the first current threshold and decreasing a magnetic flux of the downhole generator if the first component of the direct current is not greater than the first current threshold.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to oil and gas exploration and production, and more particularly to systems and methods for evaluating sand-resistivity and/or sand-conductivity, as well as saturation in laminated shale-sand formations with biaxial anisotropy. Shale is one of the more important common constituents of rocks in log analysis. Aside from their effects on porosity and permeability, their importance stems from their electrical properties, which have a great influence on the determination of fluid saturations. Shale can exist in the form of laminae between which are layers of sand. Laminae are small scale sequence of fine layers that occurs in sedimentary rocks.
Abstract:
A drill bit analysis and optimization system for use in a wellbore is provided. The system includes a drill bit including a cutter, a sensor that collects a data signal on a surface of the drill bit proximate to the cutter, and a signal processor unit that receives the data signal from the sensor and receives the expected drilling properties from the data reservoir. The processor analyzes the data signal to detect a resistivity profile from the sensor through a formation and optimizes a drilling parameter by comparing actual drilling properties with expected drilling properties.
Abstract:
A bend stiffener is operable to be installed on site in a collapsed state and expanded upon installation to provide increased coverage of a tubing string to be reinforced by the bend stiffener. The bend stiffener is expandable upon the tripping of tubing through the bend stiffener. The bend stiffener includes a flexible sleeve having an outer flange at an upper end and sized to receive the tubing. The bend stiffener also includes an intermediary sleeve and an external sleeve. The intermediary sleeve has a cylindrical body and an internal flange for engaging and supporting the outer flange of the flexible sleeve. Similarly, the external sleeve has an internal flange for supporting an external flange of the intermediary sleeve. When installed, the flexible sleeve slides from the intermediary sleeve and the intermediary sleeve slides from the external sleeve so that each sleeve encloses and reinforces a segment of tubing.
