A thermoplastic elastomer compound includes hydrogenated styrenic block copolymer having a polyisoprene soft block, styrene-isobutylene-styrene block copolymer, tackifier having a softening point of at least about 80 °C according to ASTM 6493, and, optionally, one or more additional thermoplastic elastomers. The compound has a Compound Tan Delta Peak Temperature (at 10 Hz) of at least 10 °C and a Compound Tan Delta Peak Height (at 10 Hz) of at least 0.85 if no thermoplastic polyurethane is present and at least 0.60 if additional thermoplastic elastomer is present and includes thermoplastic polyurethane. The thermoplastic elastomer compound exhibits superior damping properties across a broad range of temperatures, including at or above room temperature, and across a broad range of vibrational frequencies. The compound in sheet form can be used as a layer in an article of a structure susceptible to forceful impact of any item.

A completely non-halogenated flame retardant polycarbonate compound is disclosed. The compound comprises a polycarbonate, non-halogenated drip suppressant ingredients which react in the presence of heat to form a drip suppressant adduct, and a non-halogenated char former. The compound can achieve a UL 94 rating of V-0 at a thickness of at least 3.2 mm and otherwise achieves no dripping/igniting of the cotton indicator during that test.

A significant disadvantage of the use of polylactic acid (PLA), lack of flame retardance, has been overcome by the use of specific combinations of either polycarbonate or polyphosphonate-co-carbonate in combination with non-halogenated flame retardants of polyphosphazene or phosphate ester such as resorcinol bis (diphenyl phosphate) or metal hypophosphite, a drip suppressant, and optionally an inorganic synergist of either zinc borate or talc or both and optionally other ingredients. The compound achieves a UL 94 rating of V-0 or V-1 at 1.6 mm.

A masterbatch having functionalized silicone with an epoxy group or a secondary amine group as a slip additive, the polyethylene compound that the silicone-containing masterbatch has been let down into, and the plastic articles and films from such compounds having improved slip properties are disclosed. The improved slip properties are evidenced by essentially no migration of the slip additive 12 weeks after manufacturing and a dynamic coefficient of friction value of less than 0.4 and a static coefficient of friction 0.5 or less as measured within the first day of manufacturing according to the ASTM D1894-01 method.

A composition has been made for biopolyester films, preferably polylactic acid (PLA) films, having a low coefficient of friction for improved sliding properties, while maintaining a low haze value for good transparency. The composition, made from a masterbatch of specific additives, produces a film that achieves a haze of two percent or less (measured by ASTM D1003) and a dynamic coefficient of friction of 0.35 or less (measured by ASTM D1894-01).

Use of thermal capacity agents, particularly linear paraffin waxes used in replacement of conventional plasticizer oils, contributes the thermal capacity advantages. Selection of the particular thermal capacity agent can provide an ability to engineer the amount of thermal capacity and the transition temperature in which that thermal capacity can be utilized as absorption or release of heat. The compound experiences a solid-solid phase transition whenever the thermal capacity agent melts into liquid form in the compound.

The compound comprises a polycarbonate and non-halogenated polyphosphazene as a flame retardant, along with talc, polytetrafluoroethylene, and optionally, a potassium salt of perfluorobutane sulfonic acid.
