Abstract:
A method of determining beryllium or a beryllium compound thereof in a sample is disclosed by measuring fluorescence. This method discloses use of highly alkaline fluorescent indicating dye solutions with pH greater than 12.9. In a preferred embodiment the fluorescent indicating dye solutions do not contain a pH buffer. Further, the method also discloses measuring fluorescence under highly alkaline conditions, where the pH after mixing the highly alkaline fluorescent indicating dye solutions with the sample solution containing beryllium is at least 11, preferably 12. The use of highly alkaline solution provides superior detection limits for beryllium by using dilution ratios of 4X and lower.
Abstract:
A wheel chair with several new and useful features is provided. Those new and useful features provide the wheel chair with enhanced lateral stability, automatic cocking of an automatic locking device whenever an occupant sits in the wheel chair, and a holding mechanism that enables the wheel chair to be freely wheeled about when there is no occupant, and automatically move to a cocked state as soon as an occupant sits on the chair. The result is an automatic locking system for a manual wheelchair that unlocks the wheels for intentional motion when the chair is occupied, and locks the wheelchair wheels immediately when it is unoccupied, yet in no way interferes with the typical locking mechanism of the standard manual wheelchair when so desired.

A new and useful method and inductive circuit is provided that provides a resonant transition control that involves shorting the winding of an inductor or transformer to delay the natural ringing transition. The present invention provides for controlling the natural ring of an inductive circuit has a choke that stores and releases energy.a switch device having a closed state in which it causes the choke to store energy and another switch device having a dosed state in which it causes the choke to release energy. The inductive circuit is configured with parasitic capacitance that would normally produce natural ringing when energy in the choke has been substantially released. The invention provides for shorting the choke to trap and hold current and pause the natural ringing until power is directed to the inductive circuit to release shorting of the choke and initiate storage of energy in the choke.

A tweezer device and method of using that provides an improved gripping tip concept for gripping a work object. The tweezer device comprises two gripping tip bodies arranged in a symmetric vee configuration supported on a first flexible tweezer beam, and a third gripping tip body supported on a second flexible tweezer beam arranged in such a manner that, the third gripping tip body engages a work object and directs a force on the work object that is approximately coplanar with the plane of symmetry of the vee configured structure in a manner that pushes the work object into contact with the two vee configured gripping tip bodies thus forming two lines of contact between the work object and the vee configured tip bodies.

A new and useful cable plug is provided, that is configured for a socket-plug system connecting a PSU to a load device over a 2 wire cable. The cable plug is selectively moveable to one of a plurality of positions for selecting a predetermined output voltage (or other operational characteristic) for the load device In addition, a new and useful socket is provided, that is configured to mate with the cable plug, to provide the selected output voltage (or other operational characteristic) for the load device.
Abstract:
A closed drift ion source is provided, having an anode that serves as both the center magnetic pole and as the electrical anode. The anode has an insulating material cap that produces a closed drift region to further increase the electrical impedance of the source. The ion source can be configured as a round, conventional ion source for space thruster applications or as a long, linear ion source for uniformly treating large area substrates. A particularly useful implementation uses the present invention as an anode for a magnetron sputter process.
Abstract:
A new and useful method and system for correcting for ghost images in a telecentric optical system is provided. Ghost images generated from planar optical surfaces in the image space after the major elements of a telecentric optical system are shift invariant. In other words the ghost images produced by these optical elements do not change their shape with different field angles or points. The ghost image's invariance with field position will allow the ghost image to be subtracted or removed from the image of an object recorded on a digital detector such as CCD or CMOS detector when its optical system is telecentric in image space. This subtraction may be accomplished, for example, with a removal technique using a measured ghost function germane and invariant to that particular optical system. The combination of the ghost image and scatter functions is linearly shift invariant and therefore, both noise contributions could be removed from the resulting digital image using similar removal techniques.

Compositions having antimicrobial activity contain surface functionalized particles comprising an inorganic copper salt which has low water solubility. These types of inorganic salts may also be introduced in porous particles to yield antimicrobial compositions. The compositions may optionally comprise additional antimicrobial agents, salts with high water solubility, organic acids, salts of organic acids and their esters. The compositions may be added to various fluids used in the petroleum extraction industry, or used as coatings on components used in this industry. These antimicrobial, materials may be used for reducing both anaerobic and aerobic bacteria and are also useful for reducing corrosion of ferrous components caused by anaerobic bacteria. Although such compositions may be used for any antimicrobial application, and some of the other important uses of these compositions are in wound care, personal care and waste processing,.
