Provided is a plasma display device having a novel phosphor layer which emits green light and improved initial emission luminance and improved emission luminance maintaining rate. The phosphor layer includes particles of Zn 2 SiO 4 :Mn. The surface of the particles are covered with aluminum oxide. The ratio of Al to Si measured by an X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) apparatus on the particle surface is 0.6 or more but not more than 4.0.
