    Abstract: This invention concerns an intravascular blood pump (1) for percutaneous insertion into a patient's blood vessel. The blood pump (1) comprises a pump casing (2) having a blood flow inlet (21) and a blood flow outlet (22), an impeller (3) arranged in said pump casing (2) so as to be rotatable about an axis of rotation (10). The impeller (3) has blades (31) sized and shaped for conveying blood from the blood flow inlet (21) to the blood flow outlet (22). The blood pump (1) comprises a drive unit (4) for rotating the impeller (3), the drive unit (4) comprising a magnetic core (400) including a plurality of posts (40) arranged about the axis of rotation (10) and a back plate (50) connecting the posts (40) and extending between the posts (40) in an intermediate area (59). A coil winding (44) is disposed around each of the posts (40). The coil windings (44) are controllable so as to create a rotating magnetic field, wherein the impeller (3) comprises a magnetic structure (32) arranged to interact with the rotating magnetic field so as to cause rotation of the impeller (3). A material of at least a portion of at least one of the posts (40) is integral with a material of the intermediate area (59) of the back plate (50). Further, the invention concerns a method of manufacturing a magnetic core (400) and a method of manufacturing an intravascular blood pump (1).

    Abstract: An intravascular blood pump (1) comprises a pumping device and a catheter (5). The pumping device comprises a drive shaft (12), a rotor (10) located at a distal end of the drive shaft (5), a housing (11), in which the rotor (10) is housed, and a distal bearing (14) for rotatably supporting a distal end of the rotor (10). The distal bearing (14) comprises a static support member (18), which protrudes into or up against the distal end of the rotor (10). The rotor (10) and housing (11) may be expandable, and the pin (19) may have a sufficient length to prevent disengagement of the pin (19) from the distal end of the rotor (10) when the rotor (10) and the housing (11) are in a collapsed state.

    Abstract: This invention concerns an intravascular blood pump for percutaneous insertion into a patient's blood vessel. A coil winding (44) is disposed around each of the posts (40) so as to create magnetic field lines (500) running through the front surface (42) of each of the posts (40) and controllable so as to create a rotating magnetic field, wherein the impeller (3) comprises a magnetic structure (32) arranged to interact with the rotating magnetic field so as to cause rotation of the impeller (3). The front surface (42) of at least one of the posts (40) comprises a concavity in which the front surface (42) is inclined downwards towards a central area of the front surface (42) so as to concentrate at least a part of the magnetic field lines (500) running through the front surface (42).

    Abstract: A method of manufacturing a cannula (4) for an intravascular blood pump comprises the steps of forming a first axial section (13) and a second axial section (15) of an elongate tubular body of the cannula (4) by dispensing a first liquid material and a second liquid material, respectively, onto a mandrel (7) by means of at least one dispenser (8). The mandrel (7) is rotated and the dispenser (8) moves relative to the mandrel (7) in an axial direction during dispensing of the liquid materials. The first and second axial sections (13,15) are formed so as to have different bending stiffnesses. The first and second liquid materials are dispensed onto the mandrel (7) such that the first and second liquid materials blend into each other to form a smooth transition area (14).

    Abstract: A sheath ( 10) for producing a fully sealed access to the interior of a vessel of an animal or human body comprises a base sheath (20) having a tubular body defining a pass-through channel (22). The base sheath (20) is adapted to be inserted into the vessel through a vessel aperture. A wall of the tubular body of the base sheath has a through channel (27). This channel extends in the wall from the distal end (20a) towards the proximal end (20b). The channel (27) can be present separately from the pass-through channel (22) of the base sheath or can form a sideways extension of the pass-through channel (22), at least at the distal end..
