The present disclosure relates to methods of improving viscosity shear stability of a lubricating oil and lubricating oil composition comprising: a base oil of lubricating viscosity; an amount of one or more zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate compound(s); wherein the lubricating oil composition has one or both of the following ratios: a) a ratio of KV40⁰Cfresh to a weight % of zinc contributed by the one or more zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate compound(s) based on a total weight of the lubricating oil composition, of greater than 510, wherein KV40⁰Cfresh is the kinematic viscosity of the fresh lubricating oil composition at 40⁰C; and a ratio of KV40⁰Cfresh to a weight % of phosphorus contributed by the one or more zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate compound(s) based on a total weight of the lubricating oil composition, of greater than 560, wherein KV40⁰Cfresh is the kinematic viscosity of the fresh lubricating oil composition at 40⁰C.

Ethylene-C 3 -C 10 alpha olefin copolymers, dispersants and lubricating oils/fuel compositions incorporating dispersants, and related methods are generally described herein. The copolymer may comprise ethylene-derived units and C 3 -C 10 alpha-olefin-derived units. The C 3 -C 10 alpha-olefin-derived units may have a carbon number from three to ten. For example, the C 3 -C 10 alpha-olefin-derived units may be propylene-derived units. The dispersants may be made from copolymers having low metal and/or fluorine contents.

Engine oil \s and methods for use in soot-producing engines. The engine oil contains a major amount of a base oil and a dispersant reaction product of A) a hydrocarbyl-dicarboxylic acid or anhydride, and B) at least one polyamine, that is post-treated with C) an aromatic carboxylic acid, an aromatic polycarboxylic acid, or an aromatic anhydride, wherein all carboxylic acid or anhydride groups of C) are attached directly to an aromatic ring. A molar ratio of carboxyl groups from components A) and C) to nitrogen atoms from component B) of from 0.9 to 1.3 is used to make the dispersant which also has a molar ratio of component C) to component B) of at least 0.4 and when component B) has an average of 4-6 nitrogen atoms per molecule, a molar ratio of A) to B) is from 1.0 to 1.6.

A lubricating oil composition and method of operating a boosted internal combustion engine with reduced low-speed pre-ignition events and corrosion resistance. The oil composition includes a base oil, one or more overbased calcium sulfonate detergents, one or more overbased calcium phenate detergents, and one or more overbased magnesium- containing detergents. A ratio of ppm of calcium to TBN of the oil composition is less than 170; a ratio of ppm of magnesium to total soap content in wt.% is greater than 700; and there are limited amounts of boron and molybdenum, and all weight percentages and ppm values being based on the total weight of the oil composition. The compositions give low LSPI ratios and pass the Ball Rust test.

A copolymer including ethylene units and units of one or more C 3-10 alpha-olefins. The copolymer has a number average molecular weight of less than 5,000 g/mol, as measured by GPC. The ethylene content of the copolymer is less than 80 mol%. 70 mol% or greater of the copolymer has a carbon-carbon double bond in a terminal monomer unit, and at least 70 mol% of the terminal monomer units that have a carbon-carbon double bond have a terminal group selected from a vinylidene group and a tri-substituted isomer of a vinylidene group. The copolymer has a crossover temperature of -20 °C or lower and/or a certain ethylene run length. Also disclosed are a method for making the copolymer and polyolefins plasticized with 1-40 wt.% of the copolymer. The copolymers may low metal (ash) and/or fluorine contents.

The present invention generally relates to compositions for use in lubricating oils. In certain aspects, the present invention is generally directed to boroxine compounds having alkyl groups where one or more of the alkyl groups contains at least 8 carbon atoms. Such compounds may present improved hydrolytic stability, compared to other boroxine compounds. Such boroxine compounds may be used, for example, to improve seal compatibility in an engine. Other aspects of the invention are generally directed to systems and methods for making such boroxine compounds, engine oils containing such boroxine compounds, methods of using such boroxine compounds, or the like.

A lubricating oil composition and method of operating a boosted internal combustion engine. The lubricating oil composition has not more than 150 ppm sodium and includes a major amount of a base oil and an additive composition that includes one or more overbased calcium-containing detergents having a total base number of greater than 225 mg KOH/gram, in an amount sufficient to provide greater than 1100 ppm by weight to less than 2400 ppm by weight of calcium to the lubricating oil composition, and one or more molybdenum- containing compounds in an amount sufficient to provide at least about 80 ppm by weight molybdenum to the lubricating oil composition, all based on the total weight of the lubricating composition. The oil and method may reduce low-speed pre-ignition events in the boosted internal combustion engine relative to a number of low-speed pre-ignition events in the same engine lubricated with a reference lubricating oil.
