A portable electronic device includes a display, a user input device, and a controller that is coupled to the display and the user input device, and that is configured to execute an application program. The device further includes a user input management unit that is configured to receive an input string of characters from the user input device, configured to retrieve a bookmark list containing content identifiers that have been pre-stored by a user, configured to compare the input string to the content identifiers in the bookmark list, and configured to display a selection list on the display including a subset of the content identifiers in the bookmark list that match the input string.

A portable electronic device comprises a proximity-sensing user interface and a controller. The proximity-sensing user interface is configured to capture position information and distance information. The controller is coupled to the proximity-sensing user interface and is configured to process first distance information (31) captured by the proximity-sensing user interface during a pre-determined touch action, to determine whether a material layer (25) is interposed between the user's skin and the proximity-sensing user interface. The controller is configured to selectively set an input mode from a first input mode to a second input mode when the first distance information indicates that no material layer (25) is interposed between the user's skin and the proximity-sensing user interface.

Operating a mobile terminal (MT1) may include providing a list in memory (509) of the mobile terminal with the list including at least one identification of a communications device remote from the mobile terminal. An update for the list may be received (301) from outside the mobile terminal over a wireless link, and the list may be automatically updated in the memory of the mobile terminal after receiving the update from outside the mobile terminal. A system and method for rendering web page column widths in an adaptive manner for display on an electronic device. The system and method can display individual columns of a web page in a zoom-in view and can display web pages with multiple columns in a zoom-out view. Columns are adaptively rendered such that text in the columns is readable after zooming-in on the column. The system and method avoids the need for side-to-side scrolling of a column displayed in a zoom-in view and minimizes column narrowing.

A device may receive personal data that is collected at a client device, obtain a network address of a media device from the client device, send the network address to an advertisement device, and send the personal data to the advertisement device.
