Abstract:
A cured phenolic resin may be prepared by reacting (1) an esterified phenolic compound containing one or more phenolic hydroxyl groups and/or one or more esterified phenolic hydroxyl groups and further containing one or more esterified methylol groups ortho and/or para to the (esterified) phenolic hydroxyl group and (2) a phenolic resole resin in the presence of a base and water and/or other polar solvent. This technique may be used in the production of phenolic-based adhesives, foundry moulding compositions, surface coatings, foams and proppants.
Abstract:
A cured phenolic resin may be prepared by reacting (1) an esterified phenolic compound containing one or more phenolic hydroxyl groups and/or one or more esterified phenolic hydroxyl groups and further containing one or more esterified methylol groups positioned ortho and/or para to a phenolic hydroxyl group or esterified phenolic hydroxyl group with (2) a phenolic novolak resin in the presence of a base and water or other polar solvent. The invention is particularly useful for the production of foundry moulds or cores wherein the above composition is used as a binder for a granular refractory material such as sand.
Abstract:
Process for shaping leather material, wherein there is formed at the leather surface, by bringing material, a deposition which adheres to the leather and enables without carding nor scouring of the leather, to make integral a boot leg of a leather footwear thus treated with a sole, either by direct injection of the constituent material of the sole, or by welding or gluing to a prefabricated sole and/or enabling the shaping of the leather by means of a high frequency current.
Abstract:
An improved stretch/cling film suitable for pallet wrap, produced by the blown film process exhibits superior performance qualities similar to stretch cling film produced by the cast film process, but with an improved tear resistance; such film has reduced noise characteristics. The film of the invention is produced by blending 40 to 80 % by weight linear low density polyethylene polymerized with an alpha -olefin comonomer having a melt index range of 0.8 to 1.2 and a density range of 0.916 to 0.920; with 60 to 20 % by weight of a flexible semi-crystalline polyethylene with a melt index 0.8 to 2.0 and a density of 0.86 to 0.91; with 3 to 9 % by weight liquid polyolefin and 0.1 to 4.0 % by weight of a surfactant. The films of the invention exhibit a two-sided cling.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method of producing a waferboard by applying first a liquid phenol formaldehyde resin (12) to the surface of the wafers (10) then a powdered phenol formaldehyde resin (14) followed by forming a layup (16) and pressing at elevated temperature and pressure using steam pressing techniques (18) to consolidate the layup into a board and set the phenol formaldehyde adhesive.
