Abstract: Methods of treating a viral infection in a subject are provided. The methods include administering a therapeutically effective amount of a pharmaceutical composition comprising ginkgolic acid (GA) to the subject in need thereof, where the virus comprises an enveloped virus. Further provided are specific viral infections that can be treated using the methods.

Abstract: The present invention provides a system and a method of producing large capacity cloning vectors, preferably BACs carrying an intact viral genome, by direct cloning of virion DNA or of circular or head-to-tail concatemeric DNA replication-intermediates. These replication-intermediates are digested with a chosen restriction enzyme that cleaves once in the genome and the resultant linear DNA corresponding to the intact genome is cloned into a BAC vector, engineered to contain the chosen restriction enzyme. In one embodiment the present invention concerns a system and a method for producing BAC comprising the entire HHV-6A genome. The resultant BAC-HHV-6A clones can be used in gene therapy, in vaccination, as well as in the study of viral functions, and their association with disease.
