摘要: A device tracking and proximity service system are described which determine respectively location and proximity information for communications devices located in one or more WLANs. The system comprises a monitoring system arranged to receive signalling data to enable a device presence to be senses within a WLAN which includes means for updating a data record for said device with location information for the device by accessing a series of data stores associated with network and service management. The monitoring system processes each data record when updated it to check if it includes one or more other device identifiers and if so, determines for each of said one or more other device identifiers a corresponding data record containing location information and processes the location information of each data record to determine proximity information between said sensed device and said one or more other devices.

摘要: The system comprises a client and a set of servers for processing calls in a communications system; the servers providing call status messages to the client; in which each call status message comprises an identifier associated with the call to which the message relates. The client is arranged to handle duplicate copies of call status messages as follows. The client receives a copy of each call status message from each of the servers and identifies duplicate copies of each message received by reading the identifier in the received messages.

摘要: A PON in which parallel optical fibre paths are provided between dual OLTs and the ONTs, one of the optical fibre paths providing an active connection and the other optical fibre path providing a standby connection. Respective VLANs may be formed over the parallel optical fibre paths. If performance indicators, for example Ethernet continuity check messages, indicate that an ONT is no longer in communication with the OLT then data may be sent via the VLAN associated with the standby connection.

摘要: The bitrate for any practical video streaming system will vary considerably as a function of the difficulty of encoding the sequence in question. This variation is even more apparent when comparing different video clips of different genres for example where sports clips might require a higher average bitrate and fluctuate more due to the high activity of typical scenes, whereas a news report clip might require a much lower bitrate and be relatively static. As such, to deliver video streams at a constant quality to users sharing a contended network, a constant bandwidth method is not efficient to use across all the streams. The bandwidth allocated to each stream must be allowed to dynamically vary in time in accordance with the precise demands of the video being streamed at that time and also be within any network bandwidth constraints. The present invention defines such a method.

摘要: Video material is divided into temporal segments. Each segment is examined to.determine whether the soundtrack of the segment contains -speech sufficient for analysis and if so, metadata are generated based on analysis of the speech. If not, the segment is analysed by comparing frames thereof with those of stored segments that already have metadata assigned to them. One then assigns to the segment under consideration stored metadata associated with one or more stored segments that are similar.

摘要: An interactive workflow schedule optimiser arranged to enable a user to reconfigure an instantiated workflow for a task comprising a plurality of actions having a predetermined dependency relationship to each other. The optimiser comprises means to input one or more user-specified constraint conditions into the workflow schedule optimiser; means to regenerate a workflow dependent on user specified condition from the instantiated workflow, the regenerated workflow satisfying said one or more user-specified constraint conditions. The optimiser optimises the global utilisation of the resources required to fulfil the user request by processing in parallel the resource requirements of each of said plurality of actions required by the regenerated workflow.
