A composition for imparting reduced ignition propensity properties to a smoking article by treating the smoking article wrapper. The composition comprising at least one phase transition substance which, upon being subjected to the heat of the smoking article burning firecone, physically transforms and at least partially fills the pores of the smoking article wrapper to reduce the permeability of the wrapper in the vicinity of the burning firecone. The reduced permeability of the wrapper in the vicinity of the firecone will permit sufficient air flow to sustain free burn, but, when the smoking article is placed on a substrate, the reduced permeability of the wrapper imparts reduced ignition propensity such that there is insufficient air flow to sustain combustion of the firecone or insufficient air flow to sustain an intensity of the burning firecone necessary to ignite the substrate.

A filter element for a smoking article is described herein. The filter element may include at least one filter segment, the at least one filter segment comprising one or more flavoring or fragrancmg particles configured to flavor or fragrance an aerosol from the smoking article, wherem the one or more flavoring or fragrancing particles are configured to adjustably release flavor or fragrance upon receipt of a pressure applied to the at least one filter segment while rolling the filter between fingers of a smoker, and wherein the quantity of flavor or fragrance released is proportional to an amount of pressure applied while rol ling the filter. Thus, a user is able to control the amount of flavoring or fragrance provided during a smoking experience.

A gel system comprising a fractal network of nanoparticles and macroscopic particles is disclosed. The gel system is capable of forming an 'optical gel' effective to blurrfine lines and wrinkles as a consequence of the size domain differences between the fractal particles and the macroscopic particles. Cosmetic compositions comprising such gels and methods for their use are also disclosed.

Gel-based lipstick compositions are disclosed comprising an ester terminated poly(ester-amide) (ETPEA) polymeric gellant, a first wax component having a melting point above the sol-gel transition temperature of the ETPEA gellant, a second wax compositions having a melting point equal to of below the sol-gel transition temperature of the ETPEA gellant, optionally a silicone T-resin co-gellent, and one or more oils capable of forming a gel with the ETPEA gellant. The gel compositions are solid or semi-solid at room temperature and are capable of being molded into self-supporting sticks. The disclosed gels provide high gloss films when applied to the lips and/or provide a rheology characterized by a high viscosity over repeated shear cycles.

The method may be used as a QA/QC method to insure product consistency.
