Abstract: An internal phase solution for a coating of rupturable material for application to a base sheet to form a pressure-sensitive record material comprises one or more colour-formers of which at least 90 % are monoamino and/or diamino fluoran derivatives dissolved in a solvent comprising 80 % to 100 % of one or more vegetable and/or animal oils. Preferably the colour-formers comprise only monoamino and/or diamino fluoran derivatives and the solvent comprises only one or more vegetable and/or animal oils. Dissolution of the colour-formers in the solvent may take place at a temperature in the range 100 DEG C to 135 DEG C and micro-capsules containing such a colour-former solution may be formed by conventional coacervation processes below 70 DEG C.

Abstract: In order to obviate damage to the elastomeric materials employed in conventional machines for printing by toner-based methods when such machines are used for printing onto pressure-sensitive record material of the kind in which droplets of a solution of colour-formers are confined in a rupturable material, the printing process is carried out on such pressure-sensitive record material in which the solvent used for such colour-formers comprises only one or more animal and/or vegetable oils.

Abstract: An elongate article, which may comprise a bundle (B) of individual elements (A) with or without an immediate wrapper, is wrapped by forming a winding (20) thereon comprising a strip of wrapping material, and laying on the article a tear member (15) which extends along substantially the entire length of the article and has an end portion thereof exposed. By pulling the exposed end portion of the tear member away from, and along the length of, the article, the wrapping may be disrupted without the use of cutting tools or the like which may damage the wrapped article.

Abstract: A bandage comprises a strip of flexible fabric (10) having a first band of adhesive material (12) on one face (11) thereof adjacent to one edge (13) thereof, and a second band (14) of similar adhesive on the opposite face (16) thereof adjacent to the opposite edge (15). The adhesive comprises a "cold seal" material which, without the application of heat, adheres strongly only to itself. Accordingly, the bandage may be formed into a conventional roll (20) without successive turns becoming adhered to one another, but when the bandage is wrapped spirally around part of a patient's body in the conventional manner, the adhesive bands (12, 14) come into contact with one another so as to secure adjacent turns together.

Abstract: A method of making a laminant (10, 20, 30, 40) comprising laminating together with a bonding agent (13, 24, 33, 44), a first layer (11, 21, 31, 41) comprising paper and a second layer (12, 23, 33, 43) comprising fibre reinforcement or paper, and subsequently treating the laminant (10, 20, 30, 40) by one of laterally compressing, corrugating, creping or embossing the laminant (10, 20, 30, 40). The laminant is suitable for use, in particular, as a backing for carpet underlay and as a packaging material.

Abstract: In the production of a copy material of the type having on one face (10a) thereof a coating (B) incorporating a colour-forming substance of a kind which when released onto a receptor material (F) produces a visible mark, prior to the deposition of said coating (B) a visible image (I) is applied to said face (10a) so as to be visible through the subsequently deposited coating (B) thereby, inter alia, readily distinguishing the face (10a) carrying the coating (B) from the opposite face (10b) on which a further image (II) may be required to be formed, for example when the copy material is used to make up multi-part copy sets.
