    Abstract: A trial neck (2) for hip surgery and a method of attaching a trial neck to a bone canal preparation instrument (5). The trial neck includes a body portion (4) having a bore (6) for receiving a proximal end of the bone canal preparation instrument. The trial neck also includes an elongate neck part (8) comprising a pair of arms (10) extending from the body portion. The trial neck further includes a clamping mechanism (12) comprising a live spring formed by the body portion and said pair of arms of the elongate neck part and an actuator (24), for moving the clamping mechanism between a clamping configuration and a non-clamping configuration. In the clamping configuration, the pair of arms of the elongate neck part are pinched together to cause an inner wall of the bore to urge against the bone canal preparation instrument to retain the proximal end of the bone canal preparation instrument within the bore.

    Abstract: An apparatus and methods for guiding the orientation of an item of surgical equipment relative to a limb of a patient are described. A reference orientation sensor operable to determine a reference orientation has a first attachment feature for attaching to a limb of a patient. A surgical equipment orientation sensor operable to determine a surgical equipment orientation has a second attachment feature for attaching to an item of surgical equipment. A data processing apparatus: determines and stores an initial relative orientation between the reference orientation sensor and the surgical equipment orientation sensor from an initial reference orientation and an initial surgical equipment orientation; determines a current relative orientation between the reference orientation sensor and the surgical equipment sensor from a current reference orientation and a current surgical equipment orientation; and generates an output signal when the current relative orientation matches the reference relative orientation indicating that the surgical equipment orientation sensor currently has the same orientation relative to the reference orientation sensor as when the initial relative orientation was determined.

    Abstract: A unicondylar posterior cutting block, method of use and kit of surgical components are provided, with the cutting block comprising: a base which is mountable on a resected proximal tibial surface of a knee of a patient in use; and a body pivotally attached to the base, the body including an alignment formation arranged to align with a marking on a femur in use, the body defining a cutting guide therein for receiving a cutting instrument to make a unicondylar posterior cut in the femur and wherein moving the alignment formation to align with the marking on the femur causes the body to rotate relative to the base and to tilt the cutting guide relative to the base. Different bases offer different cut positions and rotation of the base offers further different cut positions.

    Abstract: A surgical reamer and a method of reaming a bone using a surgical reamer. The reamer has a distal part (10) comprising a proximal end (2) coupleable to a surgical rotational driver; a distal end (4); a rotational axis extending between the proximal end and the distal end; and a cutting surface located between the proximal end and the distal end. The reamer also has a proximal part (30) comprising a proximal end (32) coupleable to a surgical rotational driver; a distal end (34); a rotational axis extending between the proximal end and the distal end; a cutting surface located between the proximal end and the distal end; and a cavity (50) extending proximally from the distal end (34) for receiving the proximal end (2) of the distal part (10). An inner surface of the cavity is shaped to allow the proximal part to be tilted with respect to the distal part during rotation of the proximal part.
