The fire includes a housing having a front facade defining an interior portion of the fire, the fire including a light source configured to generate lighting to effect the simulated fire effects which are then visible within the housing. By providing the fire in plastic and forming it from a kit of individual housings that inter-engage with one another to form the completed fire the time required for assembly of the fire is reduced greatly. Also described is a spacer arrangement for a fire, for use in circumstances where the fire is too small for the opening which it is to be located in. Also described is a reflector screen formed using a hot foil stamping technique. Finally, a moulded fuel bed is described which can be used to simulate pebble or glass effects.
