Abstract: A single side emitting, multi-segment linear light source is disclosed. Each segment of the light source has an LED, a light guide with light extraction features, and a bent reflector sheet. All of this is mounted on a PCB that is bent in a plurality of places. The PCB provides mechanical support, electrical contacts and conducts heat generated by the LED away. Electrical connections are provided across the bend in the PCB using novel means.

Abstract: A first light source system comprises a light guide with light deflecting particles. If its light emission function and concentration variation function (of the light deflecting particles) are known, then a similar second light source system with a desired light emission function can be designed using the following method. The concentration variation function of the second light source system is obtained by mutating the concentration variation function of the first light source system using the same mutating function that mutates the light emission function of the first light source system into the light emission function of the second light source system.

Abstract: A multicolored linear light source is disclosed. In an embodiment the multicolored linear light source (100) comprises a linear light source (100) emanating light of a first spectrum, and regions of photoluminescent material (102,104,106). The light of the first spectrum interacts with regions of photoluminescent material (102,104,106) to give light of a different spectrum. The composition of different regions of photoluminescent material is different, providing light of different spectra in different regions.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a multicolored illuminator is disclosed. In an embodiment, a first transparent sheet comprising light diffusing particles is provided. Second and third transparent cladding sheets are provided on either sides of the first transparent sheet. A mirror is provided adjacent to the second sheet. The first sheet, second sheet, third sheet and mirror are merged to give a multicolored illuminator.

Abstract: A light source (401 ) with a light recovery mechanism is disclosed. In one embodiment the system comprises a light source (401 ) placed within a mirrored enclosure (404). The light source (401 ) is used to illuminate a light guide (405). All of the light entering the light guide (405) might not be utilized. Some of the light might get reflected back in the direction of the light source (401 ), or may travel to the other end of the light guide (405). The mirrored enclosure (404) of the light source (401 ) reflects this light back into the light guide (405). Thus the light source (401 ) placed within a mirrored enclosure (404) acts as a light source emitting light into a light guide and also redirects light coming out the light guide back into the light guide.
