Abstract:
A cutting insert is made of cemented carbide or ceramics and is intended for cutting machining of metallic materials. The cutting insert has a central hole (9) which is threaded. This makes possible larger hole diameters and thereby larger fastening forces than for hitherto known inserts, which have smooth hole surfaces.
Abstract:
A thread forming tool comprises an elongated body (4), having at a first end (6) a connector portion (8) and at a second end (10) a thread forming portion (12), said thread forming portion (12) comprising at least one annular ridge (14) about the circumference of said body. According to the invention, the cross-section of said body at the centre of said ridge has a non-circular shape.
Abstract:
An end mill which both drills and mills has main cutting edges (4) and end cutting edges (5) as well as reinforcing chamfers (6) between these. The end mill consists of a core of high speed steel or tool steel and an over-lying layer made of a hard material with 30-70 % by volume of sub-micron hard constituents in the form of carbides, nitrides and/or carbonitrides of Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo and/or W in a metallic matrix based on Fe, Co and/or Ni, whereby the external surface of the overlying layer at least partly is coated with a thin layer of TiN, Ti(C,N) and/or (Ti,Al)N. The tool's pitch angle is 40 +/- 5 DEG and its rake angle is 12 +/- 5 DEG .
Abstract:
A thread forming tap comprises an elongated body (4), having at a first end (6) a connector portion (8) and at a second end (10) a thread forming portion (12), said thread forming portion comprising at least one thread forming thread (18) having a non-circular cross-section including at least three lobes (30) for plastically deforming an interior wall of an opening while forming an internal thread. According to the invention, at the open end (32) of the elongated body (4), at least one radially extending edge (34) is provided for cutting parts of the interior wall of said opening.
