Abstract: An emergency safety switch system for moving machinery or vehicles has activation means carried or worn by an operator, whether in a control room or having alighted from a vehicle, etc. The activation means communicates (eg via a radio link) with control means on the machinery or vehicle that can override its normal operation. In the event of an emergency, the operator presses a button or voices a command or shout to activate the system. The system stops the machinery or vehicle, sounds an alarm, and may partially reverse its operation. Senses may be provided to determine if an operator has entered a higher risk area, in which case only a lower level of activation is required to deactivate the vehicle, etc.
