    Abstract: A system includes a pump, an inlet sensor, an outlet sensor, and a controller. The pump is configured for pumping fluid in a phacoemulsification system. The inlet sensor is coupled with an inlet port of the pump and is configured to sense an inlet temperature of the fluid at the inlet port. The outlet sensor is coupled with an outlet port of the pump and is configured to sense an outlet temperature of the fluid at the outlet port. The controller is configured to take a responsive action based a difference between the inlet temperature and the outlet temperature crossing a defined threshold.

    Abstract: A module for controlling irrigation and aspiration of a phacoemulsification probe inserted into an eye includes an irrigation link, an aspiration link, a bypass channel, an aspiration valve, a diversion valve, a first and second sensors and a processor. The first sensor and second sensor are configured to measure fluid parameters in the irrigation link and in the aspiration link. The processor is in communication with the sensors, and is configured to identify a change in at least one of the fluid parameters by reading at least one of the first sensor and the second sensor, and, in response to the identified change in the at least one of the fluid parameters, (i) close the aspiration valve and (ii) maintain a pressure of the irrigation fluid delivered to the probe within a predefined range, by regulating the fluid flow via the bypass channel using the diversion valve.

    Abstract: An apparatus, system and method for a phacoemulsification handpiece. The handpiece may include: a proximal portion having a longitudinal axis, and first and second ends, wherein at least aspiration, irrigation and power inputs enter the first end; a distal portion along the longitudinal axis and comprising, at a distalmost portion thereof from the proximal portion a needle configured to be vibrated by a transducer powered by the power input, the transducer residing within the distal portion and being associated with a horn having a circumferential flange proximal portion. The handpiece further includes a thumb wheel circumferentially associated with the circumferential flange within the distal portion, and having a portion thereof extending out of the distal portion to allow for rotational actuation of the extending portion. Rotational actuation of the thumb wheel thus affects a rotation of the circumferential flange and in turn, the horn and needle coupled therewith.

    Abstract: A location pad includes two or more field-generators, one or more tracking elements, and a frame. The field- generators are configured to generate respective magnetic fields at least in a region-of-interest (ROI) of an organ of a patient, for measuring a position of a medical instrument in the ROI.     Abstract: Disclosed is a surgical instrument directed to phacoemulsification for cataract eye surgery. The instrument generally includes a dual frequency voltage producing circuit comprising a low-frequency voltage pathway with a low-frequency LC Network and a high-frequency voltage pathway with a high-frequency LC network. A phacoemulsification needle extends from a handpiece able to be driven by a piezoelectric transducer. The piezoelectric transducer is electrically connected to the dual frequency voltage producing circuit. The high-frequency voltage pathway is electrically tuned with the physical high natural frequency of the handpiece and the low-frequency voltage pathway is electrically tuned with the physical low natural frequency of the handpiece for efficient transfer of energy.
