    Abstract: A simplified, compact, recliner mechanism is provided which can be adapted to many types of recliner design. A front linkage assembly and a rear linkage assembly provide the desired movement of the seat and back when moving from the TV position to the fully reclined position, obviating the need for a track and roller design. Moreover, a front pivot link and a rear pivot link are provided and oriented in a manner that allows the desired forward seat movement as the recliner moves from the closed position to the TV position. The geometries of the front linkage assembly, the rear linkage assembly, the front pivot link and the rear pivot link allow a slim profile design allowing great flexibility in the design of the recliner.

    Abstract: A pocketed spring assembly (12, 12a, 12b, 12d, 12e, 12') comprises a plurality of parallel strings of springs (26, 26a, 26b, 26c, 26d, 26e), each string joined to at least one adjacent string, each string comprising one piece of fabric folded into first and second opposed plies of fabric.     Abstract: A seating unit is provided with a glider linkage and a powered reclining mechanism, supported on a pedestal base. The glider linkage allows the seating unit to move to and fro in a gliding motion when the seating unit is in the closed position. The powered reclining mechanism allows independent operation of the footrest and back recline, utilizing a two-motor design. As the seating unit moves from the closed position to the TV position, with the footrest extended, a locking linkage prevents the glider linkage from moving. Additionally, the locking of the glider linkage provides at least a portion of the change in pitch of the seat. The recliner linkage provides the remaining portion of the change in pitch of the seat as the mechanism moves from the closed to the TV position.

    Abstract: A comfort layer (56e) for a bedding or seating product has slow-acting pockets (95, 101, 105) characterized by the individual mini coil springs (28) of the comfort layer (56e) being pocketed with either semi-impermeable or impermeable fabric. Each weld seam (70e) joining opposed plies (65e, 67e) of fabric around each of the coil springs (28) of the comfort layer (56e) may be segmented, allowing air to flow between the segments (81e, 68e, 70e), thereby increasing the luxury "feel" of the comfort layer (56e). The method of making the comfort layer (56e) includes compressing the mini coil springs (28) and creating pockets (95, 101, 105) with a welding horn and an anvil.

    Abstract: A pocketed spring assembly comprises a plurality of parallel strings of individually pocketed springs. Each string is joined to at least one adjacent string. Each string comprises one piece of fabric joined to itself to create first and second opposed plies on opposite side of coil springs. The plies are joined by transverse seams to form a plurality of pockets along a length of the string. At least one spring is positioned in each of the pockets. The piece of fabric is a non-woven ultrasonically weldable fabric made with at least some used or recycled fibers.

    Abstract: A metal-to-the-floor linkage mechanism provides backrest recline and ottoman extension for a seating unit. The linkage mechanism has a base and a pair of seat mounting plates that are used to attach a seat to the mechanism. The linkage mechanism comprises a first and a second plurality of links that are each pivotally coupled between the base and a corresponding one of the pair of seat mounting plates. The first and second plurality of links moveably interconnect the base and the seat mounting plates to control movement of the seating unit between closed, TV, reclined and fully-reclined positions. In the fully-reclined position, the seat mounting plates are moved to a position by the first plurality of links and the second plurality of links to place the seat of the seating unit at an angle relative to horizontal of between eighteen and twenty-six degrees.
