Abstract: A ball valve includes a valve element (22) and a single piece packing (32) that seals the valve element within a valve cavity (20). The single piece packing is installed over the valve element at room temperature or may be molded thereon. The valve element may include a flow control element such as a ball (24) and upper (28) and lower (30) trunnions. The various dimensions of the valve element and packing are selected to facilitate room temperature assembly and to substantially reduce the volume of packing material, thereby improving the performance of the valve over wider temperature ranges and pressure ratings.

Abstract: A fitting is provided that may optionally be pulled-up to its final assembled condition by torque rather than by turns. At least one fitting component includes a structure that facilitates pull-up by torque. The structure may take a wide variety of different forms. In one embodiment, at least one of the external surface of the first threaded fitting component (112) and the outer position of the nut (116) includes an incline (145) in an engagement area.
