Abstract: The invention relates to a castor assembly (8) and also to an item of furniture including one or more of the same. The castor assembly has a body (24) for connection to a stem (10) about which the same can rotate to allow the direction of travel to be selected and one or more wheel (20) or roller members which can rotate with respect to the body to allow travel along the surface. In accordance with the invention the assembly also includes an actuating member (26) which is provided to be operated by a person to cause movement of both the body and wheel or roller parts about their respective axes (16,14) to be locked thereby causing, in the second mode of operation, the castor assembly to act as a fixed part of the item of furniture.
