Abstract: Embodiments herein describe operating wind turbines in an offshore park to provide auxiliary power to a local AC grid or to an onshore grid during a grid malfunction. In one embodiment, the offshore park is coupled via a HVDC link to an onshore grid. When the HVDC link is down, a substation in the park includes a backup generator for creating a weak grid for powering auxiliary systems in a pilot turbine. The wind turbines in the park can switch to an auxiliary control system help power the auxiliary systems in the substation and in other turbines. In another embodiment, the offshore park is AC coupled to an onshore grid using a transformer in the substation. The wind turbines can participate in a brown or black start following a grid fault by switching to operating using the auxiliary control system.

Abstract: A transition piece (140) for a wind turbine tower (110) is provided, that is configured to be installed on a tower foundation (111) and to carry a tower piece (113). It comprises a high voltage joint (10) with grid input and output terminals (11, 12) and WTG connecting input and output terminals (14, 13). The grid input terminal (11) is configured for receiving and connecting to an array cable (21) from a power grid (20). The WTG connecting output terminal (13) is operatively connected to the grid input terminal (11) for receiving and connecting to an input cable (23) leading to a switchgear (30). The WTG connecting input terminal (14) is configured for receiving and connecting to an output cable (24) from the switchgear (30). The grid output terminal (12) is operatively connected to the WTG connecting input terminal (14) for receiving and connecting to an array cable (22) leading to the power grid (20). Further, installation, testing, connecting and maintenance methods taking advantage of the high voltage joint (10) are provided.

Abstract: The present invention relates to operation of a wind turbine using a power storage unit, such as a rechargeable battery, to power a group of power consuming units during grid loss. The wind turbine comprises a number of power consuming units being grouped into at least a first group and a second group, a first electrical converter for connecting the generator to the electrical grid, and a second electrical converter for connecting the electrical generator to the power storage unit. Upon detecting an occurrence of the grid loss, the generator is operated to ensure sufficient power of the power storage unit to operate the first group of power consuming units.

Abstract: An offshore wind turbine generator comprises a tower 1 and a platform 2. The tower 1 is provided with a side door 4 accessed from the platform 2 using a stairway5 leading to an upper platform 6. The upper platform 6 is formed from the upper surface of a cabinet 7 which houses a diesel backup generator. Both the backup generator and the cabinet 7 are mounted to the tower 1 by bolts, such that the cabinet and backup generator are fully supported by the tower 1. A diesel fuel tank 12 is also mounted to the tower 1 by bolts. The fuel tank supplies diesel fuel to the backup generator.
