    摘要: A device and method for reducing noise and/or vibration in an image forming apparatus. In a preferred form, an insert (200) is disposed inside of a photosensitive drum (1), and the insert (200) is an elastic member having, in a relaxed state, an outer diameter larger than an inner diameter of the inner surface of the photosensitive drum (1). The insert (200) is compressed to allow insertion, and once inserted, projections (202) on the insert (200) hold the insert (200) against the inner surface of the photosensitive drum (1). As such, the insert (200) can be anchored to the interior of the photosensitive drum (1) without using adhesive and can be easily removed for recycling purposes. The photosensitive drum (1) can optionally contain a pressurized gas.

    摘要: Optical electrophotoconductor drums and electrophotoconductive tubes obtained via a direct chill metal casting apparatus for continuous or semi-continuous casting of metal (DC casting). In particular, casting of ingots of aluminum which provide the electrophotoconductive tubes that are subsequently coated to produce drums for copier and printers is presented. A gas-slip prepared surface of the tube results in a reduced and limited size and number of defects of an aluminum alloy material wherein the defects arise from a casting, subsequent extrusion, and subsequent drawing process. The defects arise primarily from either feather line lamination defects or from weld-line defects where the lamination defects are characterized by at least a slightly rougher surface and often a different chemical composition than that of the aluminum alloy at one point in the feather line lamination and where the weld-line defects occur in the extrusion process from contaminants present in either an aluminum casted ingot or log. Preparation of the special surface for the subsequently coated optical photoconductive drum results in increased yield, higher quality and lower manufacturing costs.

    摘要: A storage device or drive such as a disk or tape drive including a nonvolatile erasable semiconductor memory which stores parameters which control the operation of the storage device. Through a user interface on a host computer, the user is capable of changing the parameters which are used to control the storage device, allowing the user to configure the operation of the storage device in any manner desired. The parameters which are changeable within the storage device relate to responses to the detection of errors within the storage device, data encryption algorithms, the stopping of a disk from spinning, the caching of the storage device, and data compression algorithms. The storage drive also has the capability to perform a stand-alone formatting operation. After formatting a storage medium with the assistance of the host computer (602), the formatted medium is read by the drive and stored in the nonvolatile memory of the storage drive (606). The next time a medium needs to be formatted, the formatting information is read from the memory of the storage drive to perform the formatting, thus freeing the host computer to perform other tasks.
