Abstract:
Disclosed is a process for the concurrent production of hydrogen and sulphur from a H 2 S-containing gas stream, with zero emissions. The method comprises the thermal oxidative cracking of H 2 S so as to form H 2 and S 2 . Preferably, the oxidation is conducted using oxygen-enriched air, preferably pure oxygen. The ratio H 2 S/O 2 in the feedstock is higher than 2:1, preferably in the range of 3:1-5: 1.

Abstract:
A process and device are disclosed for producing sulphur from a CO2- and H2S-rich solution, from which CO2 and H2S are released as gases in a regeneration column and a regenerated solvent is recovered. The released gas is then subjected to a Claus process from which sulphur on the one hand and residual gas on the other hand are recovered. The CO2- and H2S-rich solution under an overpressure is first expanded in a flash separator to separate part of the CO2 and H2S (flash gas). The flash gas is washed in an absorber with regenerated solvent in order to selectively reabsorb H2S; the solution recovered from the reabsorption process either flows together with the partially degassed solution from the flash separator into the regeneration column, in which gas for the Claus process is released, or is subjected to an absorption process that precedes the Claus process and through which the CO2- and H2S-rich solution for the process may be generated. The residual gas from the Claus process is returned to the absorber for the selective reabsorption of H2S, once the sulphur compounds it contains have been reduced into H2S by hydrogenation.
