Abstract: Adjustable re-usable ceramic (eg. PSZ) inserts (5) for rubbing dies in wire or roll straightening machines are mounted in medium tensile steel holders (40). Each holder (40) has a bore (44) machined to a very smooth finish and each die insert (50) has an outer mounting face also machined to a very smooth finish. The external dimension(s) (eg. diameter) of the die insert (50) exceeds the internal dimension(s) (eg. diameter) of the holder (40) by 0.0 to 0.1 %. As the inserts (50) wear, they are selectively advanced within the holder (40) to extend their operational life. Adjustment may be effected by circlip (46) and spacer(s) (47, 48); adjustment screw (70) or hydraulic ram (82).
