    Abstract: A composition useful to provide oil repellency, water repellency, and stain resistance to substrates comprising a polymer prepared by contacting a polytluoroalkyl sulfonyl halide with a compound of Formula II: (E-(O) q ) 3 Si-O-(Si(R 2 ) 2 -O) m [Si(R 3 -NHR 4 )(R 2 )O] n -Si-((O) q -E) 3, Formula III: HR 4 N-R 3 -Si(R 2 ) 2 -O-[Si(R 2 ) 2 -O] m [Si(R 3 -NHR 4 )(R 2 )O] n -Si-(R 2 ) 2 -R 3 -NHR 4 or Formula IV: HR 4 N-R 3 -Si(R 2 ) 2 -O-[Si(R 2 ) 2 -O] m Si-((O) q -E) 3 , wherein each R 2 is independently a C 1 to C 8 alkyl, each R 3 is independently a divalent group containing carbon, oxygen, and optionally at least one of nitrogen oxygen and sulfur, each R 4 is independently H or C 1 to C 8 alkyl, each E is independently a C 1 to C 8 branched or linear alkyl, each q is independently zero or 1, m is a positive integer, and n is independently zero or a positive integer, such that n/(m+n) is zero or a positive fraction having a value up to about 0.7, and the polymer viscosity is less than or equal to 10000 mPa.s under a shear rate of 0.1 s -1 at a temperature of 20° C.

    Abstract: It has been discovered by in present invention that, compared with a fluorosurfactant having only one betaine group per molecule, a fluorosurfactant having a plurality of betaine groups per molecule is superior in its ability to undergo electrostatic interaction with other components of a fire fighting composition thereby improving the performance of the fire fighting composition. Previously known fluorosurfactants comprise only one betaine group per molecule. In contrast, the present invention provides for a fluorobetaine copolymer containing a plurality of betaine groups.

    Abstract: A method of imparting oil repellency to flexible, fibrous, nonwoven substrates comprising contacting the substrate with a composition prepared from polymerization of monomers in the following percentages by weight: (a) from about 60% to about 90% of a monomer of Formula 1 or a mixture thereof: R f -Q-CO-CR=CH 2 Formula 1 wherein: R f is a straight- or branched-chain perfluoroalkyl group of 2 to about 20 carbon atoms, R is H or CH 3 , Q is -(C n H 2n O) p SO 2 NR 1 (C n H 2n O) y , wherein the -(C n H 2n ) is bonded to R f , and R 1 is H or C 1 -C 20 alkyl; (b) from about 10% to about 25% of a monomer of Formula 2 or a mixture thereof: CH 2 =C(R)COZ(CH 2 )q(CHR) r NR 2 R 3 Formula 2 wherein R 2 and R 3 are each independently C 1 - C 4 alkyl, hydroxyethyl, or benzyl or R 2 and R 3 together with the nitrogen atom form a morpholine, pyrrolidine, or piperidine ring, and Z is -O- or -NR 4 - wherein R 4 is H or C 1 - C 4 alkyl; and (c) from about 1% to about 15% of a monomer of Formula 3 or a mixture thereof: CH 2 =CR(R 5 ) e -COOH Formula 3 wherein R 5 is CO(CH 2 ) 5 , CO-O-(CH 2 ) 2, C 6 H 4 CHR, or CONRR 6 , and R 6 is C 6 H 4 OCH 2 , (CH 2 ) d , or C(CH 3 ) 2 CH 2 .
