Abstract:
An upstream bandwidth conditioning device that can be inserted into a signal transmission line of a CATV system on a premise of a user includes a main signal path and a filter array including a plurality of discrete signal filters coupled to the main signal path. Each of the signal filters is configured to reduce a signal level of at least one frequency portion of an upstream bandwidth. The device further includes a controller configured to select between a plurality of states. In at least two of the states at least one of the signal filters is selected such that a signal level of a lower frequency portion of the upstream bandwidth and a signal level of an higher frequency portion of the upstream bandwidth are reduced by a greater amount than a signal level of an intermediate frequency portion, which includes frequencies arranged between the lower frequency portion and the higher frequency portion.
Abstract:
A device is provided for conditioning a total bandwidth. The device includes a return path extending at least a portion of a distance between a supplier side connector and a user side connector, and a forward path extending at least a portion of a distance between the supplier side connector and the user side connector. An upstream section including a variable signal level adjustment device connected within the return path. A downstream section including a forward coupler connected within the forward path. The device further includes at least one microprocessor. The microprocessor is connected electrically upstream the variable signal level adjustment device. The microprocessor reduces an amount of signal level adjustment applied to the return path in response to a reduction in a level of a downstream bandwidth at the forward coupler.
Abstract:
An upstream bandwidth conditioning device is provided that can be inserted into a signal transmission line of a CATV system on a premise of a user. The device includes a tunable low pass filter, a tunable high pass filter connected in series with the tunable low pass filter, and at least one voltage control unit. The voltage control unit is configured to adjust each of the tunable low pass filter and the tunable high pass filter between at least a first intermediate frequency range having a first width and a second intermediate frequency range having a second width. The first width differs in size from the second width.
Abstract:
A cable system, and a method for configuring a path of a cable system, wherein the group delay caused by one or more amplifiers having diplex filter networks is substantially equalized over all frequencies within a predetermined band by the use of one or more all-pass delay equalizers. A method of configuring a path includes steps of determining a delay versus frequency characteristic of the path within the predetermined frequency band, and providing from one to a plurality of all-pass delay equalizers in the path, wherein a collective delay versus frequency characteristic of the all-pass delay equalizer(s) within a predetermined frequency band is a mirror image of that caused by the amplifier(s), such that all frequencies within the predetermined frequency band are delayed by substantially the same amount and hence all frequency components of a signal arrive at a receiver at substantially the same time.
Abstract:
An F-type connector for connecting a coaxial cable to an interface port and extending an RF shield therebetween is provided. The connector includes a connector body having a first end and a second end, a post, attached to the connector body, a threaded nut, rotatable with respect to the post and also axially movable with respect to the connector body between a first position and a second position, a biasing member, operable to move the nut, and a joint stop element, located to interact with the biasing member and introduce obstructive structure that impedes axial movement of the nut.
Abstract:
A fixed filter assembly kit includes a plurality of filters with associated terminals inside a case. A booklet disclosing which filters are associated with which terminals as well as technical information about each filter is included inside the lid. When the case lid is opened, the terminals are available to a user to perform proof of performance testing on a CATV system.

Abstract:
A novel, reliable, moisture migration preventing cable connector for non-standard port attachment is provided. Such a connector device includes a deformable sealing element that is clear of mating port threads during connector attachment to a cable port, but that deforms upon actuation of a mated thread device rotated around the connector subsequent to cable port attachment. Such deformation allows for the sealing element to enter the open areas of the mated threads thereby preventing the migration of moisture into the cable connector, protecting not only the connector threads, but also the mating port, as well as the internal dielectric and center conductor of the cable itself. A method of providing a signal connection and transfer in a cable system is also encompassed within this invention.
