Abstract: A filter assembly (2) is disclosed which comprises a filter element (100) for filtering a fluid, and a mount (14) having at least one port (15), each of the filter element (100) and the mount (14) having interengaging connection formations by which the filter element (100) and the mount (14) can be detachably connected to one another, and the mount (14) defining a flow path for fluid to flow between the port (15) and the filter element (100) when the filter element (100) is connected to the mount (14). The mount (14) includes a valve for controlling flow of fluid along the flow path, the valve including a valve member (214) which can move between an open position in which fluid can flow along the flow path and a closed position in which the valve (214) at least partially prevents flow of fluid along the flow path. One of the filter element (100) and the mount (14) has at least one lug (220) and the other of the filter element (100) and the mount (14) has a ramp surface (130), the lug (220) engaging the ramp surface (130) when the filter element (100) and the mount (14) are brought together along an assembly axis and a cam action between the lug (220) and the ramp surface (130) causing axial movement of the valve member (214) when the filter element (100) is then rotated relative to the mount (14).

Abstract: A separator (1) for separating contaminants from a fluid stream which includes entrained particulate contaminants comprises a cylindrical dividing wall (28) concentrically arranged within an impaction surface (35). The cylindrical dividing wall defines a first chamber (42) into which a fluid stream enters and flows axially through. The dividing wall has a number of apertures (29) in it through which the fluid stream passes towards the impaction surface. As the fluid impacts the impaction surface, the contaminants are separated from the fluid and then flow down to an oil outlet (23). A diaphragm (31) is arranged to move along an axis to adjust the open cross-sectional area of the apertures in the dividing wall according to a pressure differential between fluid pressure in the first chamber and a pressure reference by moving along the dividing wall so as progressively to occlude the apertures. The apertures are spaced so that there is no overlap between them along the actuator axis.

The lug (140) and the ramp surface (212) form a cam drive in which the lug is capable of engaging the inclined ramp surface as the filter element (200) and the mount (6) are brought together for assembly, and of sliding along the inclined ramp surface when the filter element is rotated relative to the mount to cause the link element (104) to be drawn out of the mount towards its deployed position.

Abstract: A filter element comprises a cover plate (5) having an aperture (7), a filter media (6, 30) connected to the cover plate, and an adaptor (8) detachably coupled to the cover plate and located within the aperture. The adaptor has a threaded internal cylindrical surface (12). The filter element further has a coupling arrangement (10) for detachably coupling the adaptor to the cover plate, the adaptor being configured to engage with the cover plate by means of the coupling arrangement such that there is substantially no relative movement between the cover plate and the adaptor when the cover plate and adaptor are engaged. The cover plate is connected to a canister (4) which houses the filter media. The adaptor can engage with a spigot (3) of a filter head by means of the internal thread so that and rotation of the canister and therefore the cover plate and adaptor causes the cover plate with the adaptor to translate along the spigot to bring the cover plate into connection with the filter head. A seal (32) provided on the cover plate provides a seal between the cover plate and the filter head. Abstract: A separator for separating contaminants from a fluid stream has a first inlet arranged to receive the fluid stream, and first and second separation stages coupled together in series to receive the first fluid stream from the inlet. A pump is coupled to the second separation stage for generating an area of reduced pressure to draw the first fluid stream through the first and second separation stages. One of the separation stages includes a variable impactor separator which has comprising a first chamber arranged to receive the first fluid stream, and a second chamber coupled to the first chamber through at least one aperture arranged such that the first fluid stream is accelerated through the aperture and is incident upon an impaction surface such that contaminants are separated from the first fluid stream. An actuator is arranged to adjust the open area of the at least one aperture according to a pressure differential between fluid pressure in the first chamber and a reference fluid pressure in a third chamber. The other of the separation stages is a second variable impactor separator or a filter media.
