    Abstract: Tubular layer of sealant (32) (preferably gel) on flexible (preferably tubular) carrier (30) provides advantageous sealing member, which can conveniently be compressed, e.g. in a tongue-and-groove joint (34, 36), to provide a sealed joint in items such as cable splice enclosures, car head lamp housings, gas meter casings, and domestic appliances. Styrene-alkylene or alkylmethacrylate-alkylene block copolymer gels coated (preferably co-extruded) on thermoplastic elastomer carriers are described. Gasket rings cut from such tubular articles, and provision of projecting fixing lugs for anchoring the articles to an object which is to carry them in use are also described.

    Abstract: A gel profile article comprising a multi-filament yarn carrier carrying an elongate body of gel which encloses more than 50 %, preferably more than 75 %, more preferably substantially all, of the perimeter of the carrier as viewed in transverse cross section, wherein the carrier is at least partly composed of synthetic polymeric material, preferably polyester filaments (e.g. polyethylene terephthalate) or spun yarns of a co-mingled blend of polyacrylonitrile staple fibres and polyamide staple fibres ("baby wool"), the proportion of polyamide preferably being at least 30 %, more preferably 40-60 %, by weight of the said spun yarn(s). The gel is preferably melt-coated, especially pressure-extruded, around the carrier at a gel temperature less than the softening temperature of at least a component of the carrier, and the selected class of carrier materials enhances the processability, cohesion, and appearance of the resulting profile.

    Abstract: Low-cost general purpose sealing product comprising thick gel coating on thin burst-resistant film backing useful as cost-effective bung in refrigerator casing foam injection and many other uses. Hot lamination and specific gel backing thickness ratios are described, the preferred materials being oil-extended styrene-elastomer-styrene triblock copolymer gels on EVA backing. Double-sided gel tape, or unsupported gel tape, preferably of at least 15 % triblock content, wrapped around cable to seal wall feedthrough. Includes different gels on opposite sides of backing; reticulated foam backing filled by gel; closed cell foam backing; gel tape in plane of carrier sheet; unsupported gel profile (of any shape) in automotive headlamps; non-aqueous gels of any form in acid or alkali, especially electrolyte compartments and barriers in batteries and dry cells; gel layers (preferably thermally conductive) in face-to-face contact with printed circuit boards; gel profiles as gland packing materials, e.g. for masts of ships; gel-filled foams as mats e.g. non-slip mats for boats; and gel seals in glazing frames.

    Abstract: Gel sealing profiles with various forms of solid carrier, including filaments and fixing lug (preferably integral with carrier) with enlarged head for snap or slide fitting into slot to hold profile on surface to be sealed; uses as door or window seal, bath or basin seal, and condensation diverter are specified.
