Abstract:
A method in a root bridge node for handling topology changes in an Ethernet network is provided. The Ethernet network comprises groups of bridge nodes that are only connected to each other via the root bridge node. The root bridge node and the bridge nodes may be configured to run a Spanning Tree Protocol, xSTP, to prevent ring loops among the bridge nodes in the groups of bridge nodes. The root bridge node comprises a number of ports, which number of ports is associated in the root bridge node with physical addresses of user equipments connected to the bridge nodes in the groups of bridge nodes. The number of ports is configured by the xSTP to have the role of designated ports. The method comprise: associating each port of the number of ports with one of the groups of bridge nodes; receiving a Topology Change Notification, TCN, on at least one port of the number of ports from a bridge node in one of the group of bridge nodes; identifying which group of bridge nodes that the at least one port which received the TCN is associated with; removing in the root bridge node, at least partly the associations between port or ports which are associated with the identified group of bridge nodes, and the physical addresses of the user equipments connected to the bridge nodes; and sending the TCN out on the port or ports of the number of ports which are associated with the identified group of bridge nodes. A root bridge node is also provided.
Abstract:
An access network comprises an access node (20), such as an Internet Protocol Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer, which connects to a plurality of users 30 of the access network. The access node (20) also connects to at least one gateway node (10). The access node (20) is arranged to obtain a MAC address of the gateway node (10). The access node (20) is arranged to inspect at least one MAC address of traffic received at the access node (20). The access node (20) is arranged to make a forwarding decision on the basis of the inspected at least one MAC address. Traffic in a downstream direction is forwarded if an inspected source MAC address is the MAC address of the gateway node (10) and traffic in an upstream direction is forwarded if an inspected destination MAC address is the MAC address of the gateway node (10). Direct traffic between the plurality of users (30) is not forwarded.
Abstract:
There is provided a method of operating a switch (10; 22) or an access node (20) in a network (2; 12), the switch or access node having a plurality of interfaces (64) through which data packets (30) can be received and forwarded, the network (2; 12) further comprising one or more gateway nodes (6; 16) and one or more user terminals (4; 14), each of the gateway nodes and the user terminals having a respective address, the method in the switch or access node comprising identifying the address for at least one of the gateway nodes (101); comparing a source address (32) specified in a data packet received from a user terminal at one of the interfaces of the switch or access node to the identified addresses for the one or more gateway nodes (103, 105); storing the source address specified in the data packet and the identity of the interface through which the data packet was received if the source address specified in the data packet does not match an address for any of the one or more gateway nodes (107); and discarding the data packet if the source address specified in the data packet matches an address for any of the one or more gateway nodes (111).
