Abstract:
Impact-damage-resistant glass sheet comprising at least one chemically etched surface in combination with a tempering surface compression layer, the glass sheet exhibiting a high standardized ball drop failure height and a high flexural modulus of rupture strength, useful to provide damage-resistant glass cover sheets for consumer electronic video display devices, is provided by subjecting thin glass sheet to a combination of a surface tempering treatment and a surface etching treatment that improves strength while maintaining the optical glass sheet properties required for video display applications.
Abstract:
A strengthened glass article having a central tension that is below a threshold value above which the glass exhibits frangible behavior. The central tension varies non-linearly with the thickness of the glass. The glass may be used as a cover plate or window for portable or mobile electronic devices such as cellular phones and the like. The article is strengthened by alkal ion-exchange in a molten salt bath.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to a high strength, chemically toughened protective glass article, the glass article having a high damage tolerance threshold of at least 2000g as measured by the lack of initiation of radial cracks when the load is applied to the glass using a Vickers indenter.
Abstract:
A print press system and a method are described herein that print an electronic circuit onto a material (e.g., glass substrate, plastic film, plastic film-glass substrate laminate). In exemplary applications, the print press system can print an electronic circuit onto a material to form, for instance, a flexible Liquid Crystal Display, a retail point of purchase sign and an e-book.

Abstract:
A flexible substrate are disclosed comprising an amorphous inorganic composition, wherein the substrate has a thickness of less than about 250 μm and has at least one of: a) a brittleness ratio less than about 9.5 (μm) -1/2 , or b) a fracture toughness of at least about 0.75 MPa (m) 1/2 . Electronic devices comprising such flexible devices are also disclosed. Also disclosed is a method for making a flexible substrate comprising selecting an amorphous inorganic material capable of forming a substrate having a thickness of less than about 250 μm and having at least one of: a) a brittleness ratio of less than about 9.5 (μm) -1/2 , or b) a fracture toughness of at least about 0.75 MPa-(m) 1/2 ; and then forming a substrate from the selected inorganic material.
