Abstract: An office security unit (1) comprises a sheet metal casing (2) including a pair of spaced-apart sidewalls (3, 4); a back wall (5) interconnecting the sidewalls (3, 4); an openable top wall (7); an openable front wall (8); a shelf (10) located within the casing on which shelf a valuable item(s) (11, 12) of office equipment is adapted to be seated; means to elevate the shelf (10) from a lower, storage position - in which the item(s) is wholly within the casing (2), is obscured, and is rendered secure by closure or replacement of the top wall (7) and the front wall (8) - to an upper, usable position in which, with the top wall (7) or front wall (8) opened, the then elevated shelf (10) presents the item(s) (11, 12) at a suitable working height for the user; and means to affect controlled descent of the shelf (10) from its upper position to its lower position.
