Abstract: Plasma display panel (PDP 10) includes sustain/scan and sustain electrodes (26,28) arranged parallel with one another and data electrodes (14) arranged generally orthogonal to the sustain/scan and sustain electrodes (26,28). The sustain/scan and sustain electrodes (26,28) are driven simultaneously substantially at opposite phase (phase difference shown in the waveform 1X and 2X) and between low and high electrical potentials (70,72,74,76,78) with respect to one another thereby substantially eliminating electrical potential pulses from being induced on the data electrodes (14). The sustain/scan and sustain electrodes (26,28) are switched substantially simultaneously for changing electrical potential and the rate of electrical potential change on these electrodes are substantially the same but in opposite direction (the waveform as shown in the figure). Preferably, the PDP (10) is divided into a plurality of display areas which are electronically independently controlled.
