    Abstract: According to one aspect, an apparatus is adapted to be operably coupled to a subsea blowout preventer and includes a first tubular member defining an internal passage, and a second tubular member extending within the internal passage. A sealing assembly is disposed radially between the first and second tubular members, and includes a sealing element. The second tubular member covers the sealing element and thus facilitates protecting the sealing element from any fluid flow through the internal passage. According to another aspect, a sealing element of a connector is protected before engaging the connector with a subsea casing. The connector is engaged with the casing while the sealing element is protected so that the sealing element is fluidically isolated from any fluid flow through the connector. The sealing element sealingly engages the casing.

    Abstract: A pollution control valve is provided for a stuffing box of a pump system. The pollution control valve includes a body having an internal bore configured to receive a drive shaft of the pump system. The body includes a sealing pocket that intersects the internal bore. The pollution control valve includes a sealing sphere held within the sealing pocket of the body. The sealing sphere is moveable within the sealing pocket between an open position and a closed position that prevents fluid from flowing through the internal bore. The pollution control valve includes an actuator configured to bias the sealing sphere toward the closed position. The sealing sphere is held in the open position against the bias of the actuator by the presence of the drive shaft within the internal bore.

    Abstract: An internal lock-down mechanism is used to secure a tubing hanger configured to be disposed within a wellbore to support a tubing string. An annular tubing head has a generally cylindrical bore and is configured for installation over the wellbore, and the tubing head defines an annular circumferential groove. The internal lock-down mechanism includes an annular energizing ring disposed circumferentially about the tubing hanger on a shoulder thereof. The energizing ring has an inward-facing flange configured to engage a circumferential groove disposed about the tubing hanger. The internal lock-down mechanism also includes an annular lock ring disposed circumferentially about the energizing ring. The tubing hanger is configured for insertion into the cylindrical bore of the tubing head installed in the wellbore, and the lock ring engages the inner circumferential groove defined in the tubing head and urges the inward-facing flange of the energizing ring to engage the circumferential groove of the tubing hanger, so that the tubing hanger is securely locked in position within the tubing head.
